When Disney officials announced that Disneyland would be ending its incredibly popular Annual Pass Program in January 2021, they also said that a new and improved program would be coming down the line. Eight months later, the new Magic Key Pass Program was unveiled and while some weren’t completely thrilled with the pricing and options available, others were excited to once again be able to visit the parks on a semi-regular basis.
Disney was very clear that Magic Key Holders would need to make reservations to visit, just like everyone else. Different Magic Key levels would entitle the Holders to hold a certain number of reservations at one time. Lower Magic Key levels had more blockout dates and fewer reservation holds, but the top-tier Dream Key had no blockout dates and the highest number of reservation holds.
Unfortunately, Disneyland Magic Key Holders are continuing to struggle to make their coveted theme park reservations — a problem that they have been having for weeks. At first, Disneyland Park reservations were scarce, but now it is both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. While weekday reservations remain available, nearly every weekend reservation is unavailable for all levels of Magic Key Holders, including the top-tier Dream Key Holders.
At the time of publication, only three weekend dates remain for Magic Key Holders who would like to make a reservation, and only one of those dates has Disneyland available. Saturday, October 23 is available for reservations to be made for both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. November 27 and December 19 have reservations, but only for California Adventure. Every other weekend is unavailable for reservations to be made, no matter what your level of Magic Key.
It is important to remember that just because there are currently no weekend reservations available after October 23, it is absolutely possible that more reservations will become available in the future. Disneyland has a certain number of reservations set aside for Magic Key Holders and a certain number set aside for regular ticket purchasers. If a lot of regular ticket reservations remain open, Disney can decide to open more Magic Key reservations, so the spots do not go unused.
Most recently, all weekends in October and most of November were booked, but then Disney opened up more Magic Key reservations. Those have since been booked and all weekends are once again full.
If you are a Magic Key Holder and would like to book a weekend trip down to the Happiest Place on Earth between now and the new year, make sure to frequently check the Disneyland Resort website, or your Disneyland mobile app, for the most up-to-date reservation availability.
