The Disneyland Monorail is an historic attraction at the Disneyland Resort and is a staple of the theme parks. While the Monorail at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is actually considered part of Disney World’s transportation system, the original Monorail in California is, instead, an attraction.
Disney Parks Blog provides the following details:
The Disneyland Monorail has been a beloved attraction for decades, ever since it first debuted at Disneyland in 1959 – more than 60 years ago! At that time, it was the first daily operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere.
The Disneyland Monorail not only serves as a fun transportation experience, but also offers a unique way to see elevated sights around the resort, including areal views of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland in Disneyland park and Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park.

The Disneyland Monorail has not been available for Guests to experience it since before the theme parks closed in March 2020. Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park officially reopened on April 30, 2021, but the Monorail has not been available during this time. However, in recent weeks, Disney has begun testing the Monorail (without Guests riding it), and now we know that Disney Cast Members have been hard at work to ensure that the Monorail is ready for Guests to experience it once again.

There are two Disneyland Monorail stations: one at the Downtown Disney District located in between the Star Wars Trading Post and Disney Pin Traders, across from the LEGO Store, and another in Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park. Valid theme park admission (as well as a valid theme park reservation) is required to ride the Monorail, as it is a Disneyland attraction. For more information, we encourage you to check the Disneyland app during your visit.
