And we are thrilled to see that today, the Monorail has finally returned to Disneyland Resort!
Guests and Cast Members are sharing their excitement at seeing the Monorail open after an extended closure during the pandemic. Though Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park officially reopened to the public at the end of April 2021, the Disneyland Monorail has not been running since March 2020, when Disneyland Resort closed to Guests.
Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock shared a fantastic photo on his Instagram today, celebrating the return of the “beloved attraction” with fellow Cast Members:
“The Disneyland Monorail made its debut in June 1959 along with other original attractions at Disneyland Park, such as Submarine Voyage and Matterhorn Bobsleds. I had the pleasure of helping Cast welcome back this iconic and beloved attraction (opening today, Oct 15, 2021) alongside Chris and Gabriel. Welcome back, Disneyland Monorail! #DisneyCastLife”
The treasured Monorails are now operating during regular operating hours. As a reminder, guests are required to wear a face-covering while onboard.
The Disneyland Monorail is considered an icon of the theme parks and is a fan-favorite among many Disneyland Resort Guests. While the Monorail at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is actually considered part of Disney World’s transportation system, the original Monorail in California is, instead, an attraction.
There are two Disneyland Monorail stations: one at the Downtown Disney District located in between the Star Wars Trading Post and Disney Pin Traders, across from the LEGO Store, and another in Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park. Valid theme park admission (as well as a valid theme park reservation) is required to ride the Monorail, as it is a Disneyland attraction.
While the Disneyland Monorail is finally up and running again, it is yet to be known when the Disneyland tram service will return.
