Credit: DisneyWhen Disney World launches its massive 50th anniversary celebration on October 1, there will be a number of exciting new experiences for Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. One of those experiences will be a brand-new nighttime spectacular at EPCOT called Harmonious. Harmonious will run every night of the 18-month long Anniversary celebration.
Harmonious will be one of the largest nighttime events ever created for a Disney Park and will tell a story about a shared global connection that we all have as humans. Here is some more information on the exciting new show from the Disney World website:
This magnificent new show brings to World Showcase Lagoon an innovative combination of floating giant screens, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers in a 360-degree view. Enter amazing worlds inspired by Moana, Aladdin, Coco, Brave, The Lion King, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog and other classic stories. Colorful images and effects dance and change as Harmonious weaves familiar Disney music and stories together in brand-new ways. Through unique perspectives as diverse as the world itself, Disney songs hop from language to language as the show brings people from different parts of the world together to unlock the magic of possibility.
Disney has slowly been revealing more and more details of what EPCOT’s Harmonious will look like and some of the music that will be a part of the show. And now, Disney is showing Guests just a small fragment of the work that goes into bringing a massive show like this to life. One of the most important pieces of that is making sure to accurately represent all the cultures in the show.
Disney Live Entertainment Audio Designer Clint Clarke revealed how important that representation was.
“When bringing show like this to life, the instrumentation, the music, the different sounds, you want to make sure you’re doing justice to that culture and that sound… One of the most exciting parts of the music and the storytelling going on with this show is the fact that so many diverse cultures being represented and being represented authentically. From the instrumentation to the singing to the performances. It is truly an experience to see that get brought to life. And what better place than World Showcase? This is where people come to experience different cultures and different worlds.”
The World Showcase is approximately 1.2 miles around, and in that 1.2 miles, there are 100 speaker poles. That allows Disney to fully immerse all Guests in the nighttime show that they are watching. With Harmonious, Disney is also making the music the story.
Yaron Spiwak, the Senior Music Producer and Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, spoke a little more about the musicians become the focus of Harmonious.
“A lot of the time, you know, there’s the story of the show and there’s the music of the show. On this show, they’re a little bit mixed I think. Almost like the musicians that are performing in the show are telling the story.”

Harmonious will premiere at EPCOT at 9:45 p.m. on October 1. For the most up-to-date information on Harmonious showtimes, Guests should check the My Disney Experience app for the day they would like to watch.
As with most outdoor Disney shows, Harmonious’s schedule is subject to change and shows may be canceled due to weather.
