After a lengthy closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar reopened on July 2, 2021 to long wait times at the Disneyland Hotel food and beverage location. As with the popular bar’s counterpart in Florida — Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World Resort — Guests endured wait times as long as a few hours for a chance to order a world-famous cocktail at the Jungle Cruise-inspired locale. Disneyland is now responding to the high demand and long wait times by offering reservations for Guests.

When does Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar begin taking reservations?

Beginning August 11, 2021, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel will accept reservations for lunch and dinner. The first reservation date available to Disneyland guests is August 15.  Hopefully, this move by Disney alleviates some of the stress involved with securing one of Trader Sam’s classic cocktails — like the Zombie, Krakatoa Punch, or the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum.

Prior to this announcement — that also included new details on the return of more Disneyland dining, including the reopening of Carnation Café — Trader Sam’s locations on both coasts were walk-up only. As of this writing, it appears that Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto in Walt Disney World will stick with stand-by seating, at least until Disney announces otherwise.

How do you make a reservation at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar?

For all Disneyland dining reservations, guests have an opportunity to book their reservations beginning 60 days in advance. However, with this being the first time reservations will be made available for the Enchanted Tiki Bar, Reservations for August 15 and beyond will open on August 11.

Note that Disney has not officially announced an exact time for when reservations will officially open on August 11. However, we have some predictions. On each day, these reservations typically become available on the announced date at either 3 a.m. PST or 6 a.m. However, often on the first day that reservations become available, it can be later in the morning, such as 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. PST.

So, if you’re chomping at the bit to score a spot with Trader Sam, you’ll want to be checking in with Disneyland dining on the morning of August 11. You can either call (714) 781-DINE or use Disneyland dining’s online reservations system to check for availability.

Of course, the fabulous cocktails are certainly the main attraction of Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. Many of the drinks come in a souvenir mug you can take home to keep the party going. Disneyland’s official description of the Enchanted Tiki bar shares the backstory of the famous bar’s Jungle Cruise and Enchanted Tiki Room-inspired theming:

“Many years ago, legendary explorer Trader Sam was bitten by the bartending bug (initially we thought it was just a big mosquito). Ever since then, Sam searches the Amazon, Congo, Mystic Point, Polynesia, and every exotic locale in-between for ingredients to mix into these magical libations.

Sam also picked up many of the trinkets and artifacts you see around you at his namesake bar—souvenirs and gifts from all over the globe.

In the tiki bar business, it’s a real jungle out there, but once Trader Sam began serving refreshing elixirs to explorers and adventurers, the word really spread!

So welcome aboard… ashore… or wherever you are! Cheers! Drink Up! Tulleeho! Kanpai! Prost! Kungaloosh! Ooogy Wawa! And above all, enjoy the time you spend with us at the world‐famous Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar.”
