Disney Cruise Line’s entire fleet — the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Magic, and the Disney Wonderhave been out of commission for over a year as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most recently, Disney officially canceled all cruise ship itineraries through the month of July 2021. Now, even more cruises have been removed from the Disney Cruise Line website, but there’s a caveat — they have not been removed from current Guests’ reservations.

This means that, although new staterooms are not bookable, the sailings are still currently on Disney Cruise Line’s calendar. Disney Cruise Line Blog explained the situation:

Disney Cruise Line quietly removed all remaining August 2021 sailings from their online booking page aboard the Disney Fantasy and the first two early August voyages aboard the Disney Dream. The remaining October 2021 Disney Magic Bermuda sailings from New York, as well as the November reposting cruise from San Juan to Miami were removed. While the sailings have been removed, some cruises remain on guest reservations, therefore, the voyages are NOT cancelled at this time.

Disney made a similar move with Alaska cruises when Canada banned cruise liners in Canadian waters through February 2022.

In that particular case, Disney was hoping a workaround would be found so that they could still return to Alaska this year if a domestic return-to-sailing date was scheduled before the end of the Alaskan season in September.

So, it serves to reason that Disney could be doing the same thing here — by not officially canceling certain August cruises, it’s possible that the Disney Cruise Line team is sending a message to Guests that they hope to be back on the high seas by then. Disallowing new bookings could be Disney’s way of ensuring that limited capacity is met and staterooms are not oversold.

Previously, Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that he was hoping for a fall 2021 Disney Cruise Line return. This goal seemed plausible when it was announced that Disney will be conducting its first test cruise out of it’s Port Canaveral cruise terminal this month.

If cruise companies don’t want to commit to having a certain percentage of their employees vaccinated, test cruises are required by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in order to cruise operators to once again set sail.

They must also meet also health and safety requirements outlined in the CDC’s Conditional Sailing Order (CSO).
