Last year, Walt Disney World made several changes to its operations due to the pandemic, including no longer selling Disney World Annual Passes to Guests. If you were already an Annual Passholder, you were able to renew your pass if it expired, however, renewals were on a case-by-case basis.

Now, it seems as though Disney is thinking about selling new Annual Passes and allowing renewals once again per a new email.

Walt Disney World is emailing its Annual Passholders the following information regarding MagicMobile and MagicBands, which indicates they may be gearing up to start selling Annual Passes once again. Part of the email reads:

As more Passholders continue to discover this new option, we will no longer be offering complimentary MagicBands with Annual Pass purchases and renewals made August 16, 2021 and beyond.

This is an interesting statement as, at this time, Disney is not selling new Annual Passes and renewals are on a case-to-case basis — but within that sentence, they specifically say “no longer be offering complimentary MagicBands with Annual Pass purchases and renewals”, hinting at resuming Annual Pass sales later this year.

In regards to MagicMobile, in case you missed it, Disney’s new service allows Walt Disney World Resort Guests to utilize their iPhone, Apple Watch, or another smart device to access features such as theme park entry. Disney describes the MagicMobile service as a “convenient and contactless way to access MagicBand features.”

Because MagicMobile is now being offered, Annual Passholders are seemingly using this option more than MagicBands. Therefore, Disney will no longer send complimentary MagicBands to those with Annual Pass purchases or renewals beginning later this year.

The email that is currently being sent to Annual Passholders reads in full:

Dear Valued Passholder,

In March, we introduced Disney MagicMobile service, an easy, more contactless new way to enter the Walt Disney World® theme parks through the power of eligible iPhones, Apple Watch or Google Pay enabled Android phones!

As part of this new service, guests can choose from several Disney-themed MagicMobile Pass designs in the My Disney Experience app—and coming soon be on the lookout for new exclusive designs featuring Orange Bird and Figment just for Annual Passholders. As a reminder, valid park admission and a park reservation are required for park entry.

As more Passholders continue to discover this new option, we will no longer be offering complimentary MagicBands with Annual Pass purchases and renewals made August 16, 2021 and beyond. Annual Passholders will continue to receive a special discount on MagicBands purchased, with even more designs to choose from in the future.

Annual Passholders can continue to use current or newly purchased MagicBands, their Annual Pass Card or Disney MagicMobile pass during their visits. As a reminder, your Annual Pass Card and valid photo ID are required to receive your Annual Passholder discount at participating locations, whether using a MagicBand or Disney MagicMobile service.

As always, we thank you for being part of the Passholder family!

Sincerely,
Disney Destinations, LLC
