The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover attraction in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park is an icon with a cult-like following.  Since its opening in 1975, Guests have enjoyed the relaxing 10-minute ride that takes them through some of Tomorrowland’s most popular attractions.

Disney World opened back up to Guests in July 2020, after a months-long closure due to the pandemic.  The PeopleMover, however, did not open back up with it.  Guests anxious to ride the Disney classic have been repeatedly disappointed as the scheduled refurbishment has continuously been pushed back.

Finally, though, it seems that the long-awaited reopening may be upon us.  According to the Disney World website, the PeopleMover will be closed for refurbishment through April 3, but not April 4.

This could mean that the attraction will, at long last, open up and allow Guests to travel through the world of tomorrow on it.  All we can say is that this current refurbishment schedule definitely gives us hope!

Recently, Guests at the Magic Kingdom have been able to see the Tomorrowland PeopleMover up and running, which seemed like a positive sign.  However, the PeopleMover has been seen running previously, but its reopening date was still continuously pushed back.

There has been much speculation about what could be the reason that the PeopleMover has been closed for so long.  One of the more plausible reasons is the adjacent construction of the Tron rollercoaster.  The Tron attraction does not have a current opening date, but many speculate that it will be in 2021 to coincide with Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. There have been other rumors surrounding why the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover was closed for over a year, but none have been confirmed by Disney officials.

Still, closing the PeopleMover amid construction happening alongside it is not something new for Disney.  When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was under construction in Disneyland in California, the Disneyland Railroad attraction was closed for months. Plus, we can still see that the Walt Disney World Railroad is closed amid the current construction at Magic Kingdom.

With the PeopleMover finally being removed from the Magic Kingdom refurbishment schedule, we can only hope that the year-long closure has finally come to an end.  While Disney World has not made an official reopening announcement, April 4 is right around the corner and will be the moment of truth. We’ll update our website if anything changes regarding the refurbishment schedule.
