For all of you EPCOT fans waiting to see the upcoming nighttime spectacular, HarmonioUS, it looks like we may be waiting a little while.
In case you aren’t familiar, at the D23 Expo in 2019, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek announced a brand new show coming to EPCOT. HarmonioUS will replace the extremely popular Illuminations — just before the pandemic, a “placeholder” show called EPCOT Forever was briefly used to fill the void between Illuminations and HarmonioUS. During the Expo, Chapek stated it would be the “largest nighttime spectacular in Disney history.”
Ever since Disney announced HarmonioUS, they have been continuously working on getting the nighttime spectacular ready for Guests. They did have a few bumps in the road, the biggest being the current pandemic which put a pause on several different construction projects, including this one.
Though Disney World confirmed construction has continued on the nighttime spectacular and even announced it will be debuting in 2021, it looks like it may not be until the end of the year.
In a recent D23 podcast, Director of Public Relations for Walt Disney World Resort Dave Coombs shared that the upcoming EPCOT nighttime spectacular is actually in the early stages of development saying:
“It’s such an exciting time for EPCOT cause were obviously in this multiyear transformation of the park and HarmonioUS as we’ve already said its going to be one of the largest nighttime spectaculars that a Disney Park has ever created so this is a wonderful project with Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks live entertainment.
As you’ve said we’ve seen already these huge barges that are moving out into World Showcase Lagoon and these include LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, colorful lights, lasers, and of course pyrotechnics.
And we are at the really early stages of the developments so there’s so much more to come but even from what you can see so far it’s going to be such an exciting show so we are kind of holding our breath and waiting to learn more about it.
Somebody described it as a beautifully crafted nighttime dreamscape and that for me is such an exciting description I can’t wait to see it.”
So there you have it — It looks like Disney is still in the early developments of HarmonioUS, despite having barges out on World Showcase Lagoon and testing being done. Inside the Magic will keep you updated as we get information surrounding the upcoming nighttime spectacular coming soon to EPCOT.
