Gina Carano was very publicly let go from The Mandalorian earlier this year.

When asked whether Carano’s firing had anything to do with her specific political opinions, Chapek stated, “I don’t really see Disney as left-leaning or right-leaning” He continued to say that, “for values that are universal: respect, decency, integrity and inclusion, and we seek to have the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world we live in. And I think that’s a world we should all live in harmony and peace.”

Gina Carano who played the Cara Dune character on the first-ever Disney+ Star Wars series divided the Star Wars fan base regarding her political opinions. The stars’ social media was heavily followed and certain posts were criticized by fans.

Eventually, the divide between fans became ignited with hashtags such as #FireGinaCarano and #IStandWithGinaCarano swept social media. Lucasfilm and Disney did ultimately make the decision to let Carano go from any future involvement in the series.

This attention, good or bad did lead to a spotlight being shown on Gina Carano. While Carano did receive backlash on the internet, she in turn also received a lot of positive attention from fans. The hashtags #WeLoveCaraDune and #CancelDisneyPlus also trending in the wake of the controversy.

Fans got concerned that Pedro Pascal might have also been taken off of the series, as he had previously voiced support for co-star Gina Carano despite having oposing political views. But it has since been confirmed that Pascal will remain a part of the series.

Gina Carano’s Cara Dune was in both seasons of The Mandalorian, and at this time it is unclear what will happen to the Cara Dune character. No announcement of a recast has been named, so it is possible the character will disappear from the show altogether. We will just have to wait and see.
