Credit: DisneyIt appears that Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp was the victim of a home invasion.
Reports state that a woman was arrested after breaking into Depp’s Hollywood Hills home in Los Angeles and triggering the alarm system. Police caught up to her as she fled and discovered she was connected to another recent burglary. At this time, the woman’s name has not yet been released, and it is unclear if anything was stolen from Depp’s home. Depp was not home at the time of the incident and it was the alarm system that alerted the police. The investigation is ongoing and Depp has not issued a comment on the matter.
This is just the latest string of bad luck for Depp after an extensive legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard and the British Tabloid, The Sun, left him somewhat of a social pariah. After losing the libel case, and being charged as guilty with domestic abuse, Warner Bros. released Depp and recast Mads Mikkelsen as his character, Gellert Grindelwald, in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. Disney followed suit, confirming that Depp (AKA Jack Sparrow) will not be involved in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
However, the actor who brought the notorious pirate Captain Jack Sparrow to life continues to hold a loyal fan base with a petition for his return to Pirates breaking over 400,000 signatures. At the new year, he released a short statement on his social media which included the following:
“In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly, I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days. Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.
Finally, I wish to say this. The surreal judgment of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, Johnny Depp.”
