A Slytherin’s Guide to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Slytherin

The Harry Potter universe includes us all: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. I think we have a little bit of each house inside of us, but everyone has one house they represent more than others. I am a proud Ravenclaw, but some of my best friends are part of Slytherin. Slytherins are admired for their extraordinary cunning, ambition, and resourcefulness. And because of that, Slytherins are always up for a new adventure.

What better adventure than jumping into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando? Thanks to Universal Orlando’s official blog, we have some Slytherin specific Wizarding World of Harry Potter tips just for those cunning witches and wizards who are ready to get Slytherin to the gates of the theme park. Get ready for an adventure worthy of that trademark Slytherin determination and cleverness. These adventures appeal to Slytherins, but they would be fun for a Harry Potter fan in any Hogwarts House.

NOTE: Some experiences may be unavailable or altered during COVID-19 theme park safety protocols.

Knockturn Alley

Hagrid says, “There’s not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin.” Well, I love Hagrid almost as much as I love Dobby (never speak ill of Dobby), but Hagrid was a little biased here. I mean, come on. We know there were bad wizards in other houses besides Slytherin. Take Wormtail for example! Anyway… what’s so bad about curiosity? Knockturn Alley is full of resources that are not available anywhere else – what’s a witch to do? Why, explore Knockturn Alley of course! It can be a bit shady, but cunning Slytherins can escape any danger that may lurk in Borgin and Burkes. Take out your wand while you’re there and dabble in some Dark Arts. Maybe a skeleton will dance for you.

Slytherin Shopping

Want to represent your Slytherin pride with some green and silver gear? There are plenty of shops to wander through in Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Once your Hogwarts acceptance letter arrives, here are some shops to gather all those magnificently magical supplies:

  • Dervish and Banges
  • Madam Malkin’s Robes For All Occasions
  • Filch’s Emporium For Confiscated Goods
  • Quality Quidditch Supplies

Slytherin Wands

Once you get your Hogwarts school supplies, you will need a magical weapon to wield your power. Collect the wands of famous Slytherins of the past from Ollivander’s. If you do not want the wand of Lord Voldemort or a Dark Arts death eater like the Malfoy’s or Bellatrix Lestrange, you can also collect the wands of Snape and Yaxley. No matter whose wand you choose, Salazar Slytherin would be proud that you honor the traditions of Slytherins past. You will be so excited to cast a spell with one of these legendary wands.

Slytherin Sweets

Maybe some candy is a bit too cheerful for your serious Slytherin tastes. Slide some Nautious Jumping Snakes into your bag, which can be purchased at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezus. If you want something a bit more… pure, snag some Blood Pops from Honeydukes. They are sinisterly sweet.

Hidden Secrets for Slytherin Eyes Only

If you are gifted with the ability to speak Parseltongue (a notoriously Slytherin talent), slither over to the Magical Menagerie. I hear that a snake in the window may be feeling chatty – if you can understand his language. Look for the Wanted poster of Bellatrix Lestrange on your next visit to Knockturn Alley. Peek into the windows of 12 Grimmauld Place to spy a proud servant of the Black household. Snape’s office door is hidden, but cunning Slytherins will want to see the door of their favorite professor within the halls of Hogwarts castle.
