Fans have continued to flock to Downtown Disney since it officially opened to the public on Thursday. And for the second day in a row this weekend, the parking lot is full.
Today, Disney sent out messages from both the Disneyland Today and Disneyland Annual Passholder accounts on Twitter, saying, “PARKING UPDATE: For the safety of our Cast and Guests, we may need to occasionally pause parking today for Downtown Disney. Parking will resume as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience!”

This Tweet was preceded by an identical message sent out yesterday afternoon, when the parking also had to temporarily close.

Downtown Disney officially reopened on Thursday, July 9, which marked the beginning of the phased reopening of the Disneyland Resort. Although Disney has not yet announced the new reopening dates of the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks or the Disney Resort hotels, fans can still experience the magic and pixie dust of the Happiest Place on Earth at Downtown Disney.
And because so many local Guests and dedicated Annual Passholders have been missing Disney magic for over four months, it doesn’t come as a surprise for Downtown Disney to remain continuously popular over the past four days since it reopened.
We shared our experiences visiting Downtown Disney on reopening day as well as the day after that. We visited the shopping, dining, and entertainment district in the morning on both days, and we experienced drastic differences in terms of crowds. You can read about the reopening day crowds here and the day two crowds here.
Keep in mind that Disney is implementing strict health and safety protocol that has been approved by state and local governments in order to reopen Downtown Disney. And health and safety protocol will be in place when the theme parks and Disneyland Resort hotels reopen in the future, as well. Although the Downtown Disney parking had to temporarily stop accepting new Guests, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Downtown Disney itself is highly crowded. Rather, Disney is limiting capacity for the safety of all Guests and Cast Members.
