Today marked the first day of the phased reopening of Disneyland Paris in Marne-la-Vallée, France just outside of the French capital. The only European Disney Park also shared important health and safety information ahead of reopening.

They also shared their Cast Members’ excitement to be welcoming Guests back in some magical videos.

Disneyland Paris is the fifth of the world’s six Disney theme parks to reopen, although Hong Kong Disneyland has once again closed due to the pandemic.

The only park that has not reopened for a single day since its temporary closure is the original Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Here, we look at what the reopening of Disneyland Paris could mean for Disneyland on the west coast.

Social Distancing

Disney’s new physical distancing regulation exists at all of its theme parks worldwide. There will be no more jam-packed crowds in line for rides and attractions, and many Disney experiences — such as nighttime spectacular firework displays — that involve large gatherings of people are currently suspended.

This holds true at Disneyland Paris, where the nightly Illuminations fireworks show that occurs at Sleeping Beauty Castle, is not available at this time.

When Disneyland Resort is eventually allowed to reopen under California’s guidelines, Guests can expect that both Mickey’s Magic Mix at Disneyland Park and World of Color at Disney California Adventure theme park be on hold until further notice.

Character Meet-and-Greet Selfies

Perhaps the biggest effect the reopening of Disneyland Paris will have on Disneyland Resort is in regard to character meet-and-greets. The Walt Disney Company has made clear that no close character interactions, such as hugging or shaking hands, will be allowed at this time.

To still give Guests a chance to take photos with their favorite Disney Parks characters, DLP has implemented brand new “Selfie Spots” throughout both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, OC Register reports.

The Selfie Spot stations include the following characters.

Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris –

  • Casey’s Corner Restaurant:  Winnie the Pooh and others
  • Liberty Arcade: Donald Duck and others
  • Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups: Alice and others
  • Fantasyland (PhotoPass+ location): Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and other Mickey & Friends characters
  • Discoveryland (pre-book using Lineberty app): Darth Vader and others
  • Frontierland: Cowgirl Minnie Mouse

Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris –

  • Toon Studio Classic Spot (pre-book using Lineberty app): Goofy and others
  • Toon Studio Chic Spot (pre-book using Lineberty app): Minnie Mouse
  • Production Courtyard: various Marvel superheroes
  • Toon Studio Animagique Theater: Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, and Mickey in a fairytale setting
  • Toon Studio Animation Celebration Spot: Anna, Elsa, and various Frozen characters
  • Toon Studio Olaf Spot: Olaf

Social media photos of the Disneyland Paris Selfie Spots are already being posted, like this one from Instagram user @dronne.valentin.

Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Resort are similarly sized, so it would be easy to implement character selfie stations throughout Disneyland Park and California Adventure. This would be a great way for Guests to continue getting photos with their favorite Disney icons during the Anaheim park’s phased reopening.
