On Friday, February 7, 2020, Walt Disney World held its latest After Hours event, Disney Villains After Hours. The event is scheduled to run on select nights from now until July 10, 2020, and consists of the most epic Villain takeover of the Magic Kingdom yet. Like the other “after hours” events across Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 10 pm, and all guests who purchased the event tickets get to stay and take part in an exclusive three-hour party from 10 p.m. – 1 a.m. They provide a dash of extra magic to your Disney vacation and should not be confused with Extra Magic Hours (which are free for Disney Resort hotel guests).

But there are some unknowns when it comes to these Disney After Hours events. And whether you are planning to attend Disney Villains After Hours, the Disney After Hours events at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney‘s H20 Glow Nights at Disney‘s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, or the upcoming events like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, we want you to be aware, so you can make the most of your day.

1. You do NOT need to purchase a regular park ticket to attend your “after hours” event.

The event tickets will cover your entry into the park for the event. If you want to explore and enjoy the Magic Kingdom or any other Disney theme park during the normal admission hours, you will have to purchase a regular theme park admission ticket.

Also, a reminder that all Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders get a 30% discount on their event ticket.

2. You can enter the Magic Kingdom as early as 7 pm.

While each event doesn’t start until 10 p.m., Walt Disney World will start admitting event guests into the park as early as 7 p.m., or three hours before the After Hours event is scheduled to begin. For example, if you opt just to buy the event ticket, that means you have up to three hours to have the normal Magic Kingdom experience before the party begins. You can ride your favorite Magic Kingdom rides without worrying about missing any event-exclusive attractions, like Big Thunder Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, and the Haunted Mansion. You can watch the “Happily Ever After” fireworks show in front of Cinderella’s Castle, and you can even book FastPasses!

3. You can use your event ticket to secure FastPasses.

Yes, you read that right! You can use your event ticket to secure FastPasses for Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom attractions. But here’s the catch: FastPasses are only available until the park closes to non-event guests. Meaning, in the case for Disney Villains After Hours, guests have from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. to reserve FastPasses for their favorite rides.  Once the “after hours” event begins, all rides are stand-by only.
