There’s no doubt the impact that Star Wars has across generations. And it’s no surprise that couples over the years have wanted Star Wars-themed weddings. But scheduling your wedding to coincide with the premiere of the latest Star Wars film? Now that’s extraordinary!
Some Star Wars superfans will be walking down the aisle…the theater aisle! Not one, but two couples have scheduled their wedding ceremonies for this Thursday, the night that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters in the U.S. And after their wedding ceremonies, each couple is heading straight to catch the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga and see their favorite characters on the big screen for possibly the last time.
Thanks to Alamo Drafthouse locations across the U.S., Star Wars fans are able to really get in the spirit this season and celebrate the theatrical debut of Episode IX in exciting ways. And while lightsaber battles and specialty food and drink are offered at many of the locations in honor of the new movie, the nuptials of two couples in Texas are reason enough to celebrate.
Do we know anybody obsessed enough with STAR WARS that they'd be willing to get married on 12/19? We have an idea. Slide into our DMs.

Texas resident Andy Forbes and his fiancé, Wendee, plan to tie the knot this Thursday in the lobby of the Austin location of the Alamo Drafthouse. They’ll be dressed in full cosplay, him as a Stormtrooper and her as Princess Leia, space buns and all. After saying “I do” and enjoying some themed food and drink (from Soba Fett salad to Rye-Sistance cocktails), the couple will head straight into one of the screening rooms to enjoy Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
“Everyone remembers where they were when ‘Star Wars’ came out. We’re going to say we got married,” said Forbes. “It’s so cool. I mean, it’s the opposite of cool. But it’s awesome.”
“Our family thinks it’s funny, but this is us. We live and breathe it,” he added.
Forbes and his fiancé aren’t the only couple who took Alamo Drafthouse up on their offer to host a wedding on the night of the Rise of Skywalker theatrical release. Another Texas couple — Mallory Walker and Matt Anderegg — has been together for 14 years and engaged for 12. Now, on the release of the final film in the Skywalker saga, they’re getting married. Only this couple won’t be dressed in costume and wants to keep a lot of the night a surprise — they’re just excited to be around other people who share their love for Star Wars.
“Our parents, for a while, pressured us in getting married, but they’ve since given up,” said Anderegg. “It’s been so long that we weren’t going to elope. This came up as an exciting thing. We spend a lot of time at Drafthouse, and we’re both big ‘Star Wars’ fans. It all came together.”
“None of our friends are surprised,” added Walker. “My family is sad they can’t come because it’s short notice, but they’re big ‘Star Wars’ fans too so it’s not unexpected we would do it this way.”
After each of their Star Wars weddings, both couples coincidentally plan to travel to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s latest new land expansion located on the west coast in Disneyland and the east coast in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Sounds like the perfect trip to us! (Want to book your own trip? Click here for a free quote from Academy Travel!)
We can’t wait for these couples to exchange their “I do”s (or maybe more appropriately, to say “I love you” and “I know”). May the Force be with you, always!
