At the global press event on Wednesday, December 4, leading actors Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega all said they were done with Star Wars movies.

Seeing it’s the end of the Skywalker Saga as well as the end of the Rey, Po, and Finn stories, we have to ask: “Okay, who’s gonna die?”

So, if you also avoid hunting for leaked spoilers on Reddit and the like, and enjoy some light speculation, let’s take a look at the characters most likely to vanish into The Force in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Characters Most At Risk

I know it’s kind of a cop-out, but I’m not listing these in any particular order. They are all considered the same level of “highly at risk.”

R2-D2 and C-3PO

Let’s start with these two. Even though you can’t think about Star Wars without thinking of these two–especially R2–there’s no way these two are in the clear. R2’s luck has to run out sometime and ‘3PO’s words, “taking one last look, sir, at my friends,” still haunts our hearts.

Why would they die?: The Saga is ending. Their story is ending. Plus, it would give the characters a great push for the final moment.

Why would they live?: The only reason I can think of is that the internet would see a vocal eruption, unlike anything it’s ever seen. Like, take every small Twitter eruption from the tiniest Trump tweet, add them together, multiply that by two, and that is what you will get if audiences everywhere have to sit and watch these droids die. I wouldn’t be a part of it, but I know that’s what would happen.

Chewbacca

Yup. He’s at risk too. In fact, I say Chewie has the highest chance of dying out of everyone.

Why would he die?: Han is gone. Leia is–presumably–gone. Chewie is a hero with no ties. Not only that but Chewie has stuck by Han since they escaped the Empire together. There is nothing holding this Wookie back from unleashing all the fury of Kashyyk on the First Order and having it cost him his life.

Why would he live?: Again, Han is gone. That means Chewie is completely free now. One last successful campaign and I can see him finally fly off to be retired with his family.

The Millennium Falcon

Don’t be surprised at all if the fastest ship in the Galaxy finally goes down. I would also say that Lando’s fate will be the same as the Falcon.

Why would she die?: Did you see that ginormous fleet of bad guys? There are a couple of moments of that battle where we can see the Falcon go down.

Why would she live?: At the end of all things, I can see her finally given back to Lando, or Rey, or Poe.

Finn

The Storm-Trooper-turned-hero deserves to go out like a hero. Also, he’s not signed on for any more movies.

Why would he die?: He would make the sacrifice play. For Rey, for Poe, for Rose, for any of them. Also, if he hasn’t changed from The Last Jedi, Fin will make another run at that sacrifice play and Rose probably won’t be there to stop him.

Why would he live?: In short, because he deserves to finally know a life of freedom from both the First Order and from the obligation of fighting.

Poe

He’s fearless, flies by the seat of his pants, and is willing to do whatever it takes. And he is also not signed on for any more movies. I will also say that no matter what happens to Poe, BB-8’s in the clear.

Why would he die?: He would make the sacrifice play without even thinking about it.

Why would he live?: Because someone has to be left to lead once the battle is done. It’s not going to be Finn and it’s not going to be Rey. It’s going to have to be him.

Rey

In all honesty, I think Rey is the last person on this list to be taken out, which is all the more reason to put her on here. Especially, now that Daisy Ridley isn’t signed on for any more Star Wars projects.

Why would she die?: Probably going down and taking the Emperor and Kylo Ren with her. Again, the sacrifice play.

Why would she live?: She’s the hero. Heroes never die. Plain and simple.

In a perfect galaxy…

…We’d see all the aforementioned characters fly off into a happily ever after. But I don’t think that would happen. But I will say if they had chosen to opt for a Disney+ Series, they would definitely end on that subtle cliffhanger.
