We’re not ones to say “I told you so,” but… We told you so!

Last month, Inside the Magic defended Disney+’s decision to organize Iron Man 3 as a Christmas movie. Now, we have confirmation. Marvel just published an entire article about it, and Iron Man himself agreed with them on Twitter.

In the article, Marvel states:

The plot of Iron Man 3 could honestly take place at any time of the year — considering it’s not wholly dependent on its Christmas setting. But, the fact that it does take place at Christmas makes it a clear contender for a true Christmas movie, and we’re here to say, once and for all, that it deserves a place in the Christmas Movie Hall of Fame. Proclaiming this, of course, brings up the age-old debate as to what actually qualifies something as a Christmas movie, and your mind probably wanders to that argument over the likes of Die HardLethal WeaponGremlins, and Rocky IV. Hey, if those are allowed to be classified as Christmas movies, so is Iron Man 3.

But even more so than the others, we believe Iron Man 3 is a Christmas movie because the essence of the story revolves around Tony going through hardships and coming out the other side to see the wrong in his ways. That’s the spirit of Christmas.

Marvel further backs its claim in the article by arguing that Tony Stark is pushed to change, very much like Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and he needs three people to remind him of who he is at different points of the journey: Pepper, Harley, and Rhodey.

Marvel also compares the end scene of Tony throwing his Arc Reactor into the sea to that of George Bailey running through the streets in It’s a Wonderful Life. While it is true that both characters end their films ready to start the next chapter with a renewed spirit, the takeaway quotes both parallel each other.

It’s a Wonderful Life

“Dear George, Remember no man is a failure who has friends!”

Iron Man 3

“You can take away my house, all my tricks, and toys but the one thing you can’t take away? I am Iron Man.”

But, if you’re still not convinced, we would suggest pairing this movie with one of the other classics we just mentioned to see the parallels for yourself.
