Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker promises to be the epic conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, a film series spanning nine movies across multiple decades and generations. And while the stars and team behind the film are faced with the pressure of living up to fan expectations, they are also tasked with answering the question, “What legacy do I want to leave behind when all this is over?”
Or at least, that’s a question that was asked to Daisy Ridley, who stars as Rey in the current trilogy of Star Wars films.

Inside the Magic had the opportunity to attend the press day for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and hear the team behind the film discuss their roles and work. During the press conference, Ridley shared more about what it’s like to play Rey — the trilogy’s heroine — and the legacy she hopes to leave behind as the Skywalker Saga comes to a close.

“I think, in itself, to be part of something, like a lot of people in cinema are talking about representation and change and aren’t doing it,” Ridley said, “So I think, in itself, being part of a team of people that look a little different, that are from different places, like in whatever form that is — gender, race, whatever it is — I think that, in itself, is a legacy to be proud of.”
She continued, “Like J.J. was saying, this is a film of hope. And I think we are reflective of the world at large, There are a lot of people up against magnificent forces that are fighting the good fight. And, you know, the characters aren’t real, but what they’re doing is perilous in cinema. So to be able to portray even a tiny part of that in this crazy world is very special.”

Hearing Ridley speak on her role as Rey and what she hopes to contribute to the saga was pretty spectacular. The actress has played such a huge part in this trilogy, and while fans around the world have been wondering what’s to come of her character in this final film, there’s one thing we don’t have to worry about. Ridley takes immense pride in playing the character of Rey, and her attitude toward what the characters in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stand for is definitely admirable and one we should all pay attention to.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the third and final film in the current trilogy and the finale of the Skywalker Saga, which started with the original trilogy in the 1970s and has continued over generations. The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, picks up where the last one left off and throws audiences right into the action, just as the original movies did. It follows the Resistance — including Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron — as they face the First Order one last time for a final battle, having the power and knowledge of generations behind them.
