Free things to do

Did you ever think the two words “Disney” and “Free” would be used in the same sentence?

Yes, Walt Disney World is home to four theme parks, two water parks, and outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, but with it comes to a lot of credit card swipes and MagicBand taps. But what if we told you Walt Disney World is also filled with fun and exciting activities that don’t cost a single penny!

The next time you are visiting Disney World, take a look at this list of completely free things to do, so you and your family can build memories to last a lifetime that won’t break the bank.

Resort Hopping

Did you know that there are more than 25 Walt Disney World Resorts on property, each one being extremely unique. Whether you and your family are looking to spend the night in a beautiful lodge or for more of a budget-friendly resort, Walt Disney World has a special place for every family’s liking.

But did you know that just because you aren’t staying in a specific resort, that doesn’t mean you can’t go and explore? That’s right. Disney opens its door to everyone, regardless if you are staying in that resort or not.

If you are looking for something fun for the whole family, that is also completely free, then check out Resort Hopping. One of the easiest routes to accomplish is the Magic Kingdom route.

The Contemporary, The Polynesian, and The Grand Floridan are all accessible via the monorail and each resort has its own distinctive atmosphere, glamorous gift shops, and one-of-a-kind restaurants.

Disney guests can also visit The Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, which are also part of the Magic Kingdom route, but these are accessible via boat. Fort Wilderness is home of the infamous Hoop de Doo Revue and Wilderness Lodge is home to Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Movies Under the Stars

Did you know that several of the Walt Disney World Resorts also offer free outdoor movies? Each resort has an activity guide that shows Disney guests which movies will be shown each night of the week.

The Disney movies are projected onto large screens, typically by the pool, and feature everything from Disney Animated Classics to Disney Pixar films.

Electrical Water Pageant

This is one of my all-time favorite hidden gems located on Walt Disney World property. The Electrical Water Pageant takes place every night on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake and it is filled with pure Disney magic.

The Electrical Water Pageant features a total of 14 floats which are each lit up to showcase different objects and creatures to famous Disney music.

Scenic Boat Rides

There is nothing more relaxing than kicking back with the wind in your hair and the sea breeze blowing in your face.

You can either choose a scenic boat ride aboard the Magic Kingdom boat route or on the friendship boats, which sail around the Hollywood Studios and Epcot area.

You can start your morning off by having breakfast at either Trails End at Fort Wilderness or you can dine with Snow White and her friends at Storybook Dining at Artist Point in Wilderness Lodge. Then, you can take the boat from either resort to Magic Kingdom (even if you don’t plan on heading into the theme park).

Even if you don’t have a dining reservation anywhere, you and your family can just ride the boat along either route to just kick back and relax, without pulling out the wallet!

There is so much to see and do at Walt Disney World, and while a majority of the things may cost a pretty penny, not everything that Disney has to offer will break the bank.
