Neill was diagnosed with stage three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, in 2022. Earlier this year, the actor declared that after a long treatment, he was cancer-free, with his family confirming in their statement that he remained completely cancer-free at the time of his passing.

Sam Neill: Film and Television

Born in Northern Ireland to an English mother and a New Zealand father, Neill enjoyed an illustrious film career, appearing in numerous projects outside Universal’s dinosaur franchise, including Sleeping Dogs (1977), My Brilliant Career (1979), Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981), Dead Calm (1989), Death in Brunswick (1990), The Hunt For Red October (1990), The Piano (1993), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), Event Horizon (1997), and The Hunter (2011).

Outside film, Neill appeared in numerous television projects, including The Tudors (2007), Crusoe (2008–2010), Happy Town (2010), Alcatraz (2012), and most recently in the first two seasons of the hit series Peaky Blinders (2013–2014).

However, it was his role as the endearing paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi blockbuster Jurassic Park (1993) that made him a household name. Neill would reprise his role as the beloved character in Jurassic Park III (2001) and in Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Throughout his acting career, Neill achieved several awards, including the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the Longford Lyell Award, the New Zealand Film Award, and the Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor. He was also nominated for three Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmys.

Our thoughts are with Sam Neill’s family and friends during this difficult time.
