Recent years have seen the iconic wall-crawler Spider-Man well and truly put back on the map, thanks to the character’s integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Tom Holland first donned the red-and-blue suit in Captain America: Civil War (2016), before getting his solo outing in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). He reprised his role several more times, returning in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Now, while Spider-Man 4 is in development, sadly, Holland’s Peter Parker won’t be appearing in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday (2026), which was made clear during the major casting announcement last week, with his name absent from the epic lineup (of course, there’s every chance his involvement in the new film is being kept a secret).
According to a report, this is because the events of Spider-Man 4 will unfold at the same time as Doomsday. But Spidey fans needn’t worry — because there’s plenty of web-slinging action yet to come, which includes a very different iteration of the beloved wall crawler.

A Brand-New Spidey
That’s right — a brand-new Spider-Man design has been revealed. But it’s not just the design, as this iteration also has a completely different identity. So, move over Peter Parker and Miles Morales — it’s time for Takuya Yamashiro to quite literally swing back into action.
Of course, Takuya doesn’t replace Peter or Miles, but he is the Japanese version of the wall-crawler from the Japanese Spider-Man television series, who also appeared in the 2014–2015 “Spider-Verse” and 2018 “Spider-Geddon” comic storylines.
Now, he’s set to “spin a web” off the back of the recent “Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood” one-shot comic book and next month’s “Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains” one-shot.
Revealed by CBR on March 28, Takuya’s new Spidey is designed by artist Luciano Vecchio, with the costume making its debut in “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3 this July, where Takuya Yamashiro joins a Multiversal “arachnid war” between Spiders and Symbiotes.

The purpose of the new costume is to differentiate Takuya’s Spider-Man from Peter Parker’s. “In the story, a new costume for Takuya is introduced, and it helps setting him visually apart from Peter,” Vecchio told CBR.
“I rewatched episodes and clips of the Japanese Spider-Man show to tap into that universe’s sensitivity and dramatic body language, and also referred to other early ‘80s shows in the Tokusatsu genre for aesthetic cues like the scarf and black lenses,” he continued.
“I bounced ideas and references with writer Mat Groom before landing on this visual that can be shortened to Spider-Man meets Super Sentai.”

CBR has also shared a first look at “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #1, which you can check out here.
“With the fates of the SPIDER-VERSE and VENOMVERSE hanging in the balance, these eight-legged warriors will stop at nothing from protecting their people – or die trying!” the synopsis reads.
“Will Spider-Man and friends succeed in protecting the Web-Heart? Or will Venom and his symbiotic comrades prove that the Hive-Mind fights for its survival? Meet new Web-Heads and mysterious symbiotes as this savage battle risks both their extinction!”

Spider-Man Content Old and New
So, while Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be absent from Avengers: Doomsday, there’s still plenty of wall-crawling action to check out and look forward to.
While production on the untitled fourth film gets underway, you’ll find plenty of Spidey action on Disney+, including the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield’s two films, Tom Holland’s Homecoming, and the new animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
As for the new comics, “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #1 (of 5), written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with art and cover by Lucian Vecchio, goes on sale May 14, and “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3 (of 5), with art by Jim Towe, goes on sale July 23.
