In 2004, The Walt Disney Company purchased The Muppets from The Jim Henson Company for $75 million. Since then, Disney has created multiple Muppets television shows, movies, and specials. In recent years, Muppets Haunted Mansion premiered on Disney+ for the 2021 Halloween season, and fans loved how well it honored the iconic Disney attraction while adding in Muppets flair.
Disney also tried to create a new series — The Muppets Mayhem — which followed Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after just one season.

Disney+ isn’t the only place fans can get their Muppet fix. Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort can head to Hollywood Studios and watch the fun show Muppet*Vision 3D and dine at PizzeRizzo.
Sadly, the Muppet area in Hollywood Studios will be closing on June 8 and turned into a new land based on the 2001 Pixar film Monsters, Inc. Fans were devastated by the news, and didn’t feel much better when Disney announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would be getting a Muppets retheme.
Thankfully, it seems like Disney might not be fully abandoning The Muppets.

According to a Disney insider, Disney is currently working on a new Muppets movie!
The DisInsider has connections all throughout Disney and was recently asked about a variety of projects, including Pirates of the Caribbean 6, Cruella 2, the reported Big Thunder Mountain Railroad movie, and more. And when he was asked if Disney had decided to abandon The Muppets, he was cryptic but gave fans a little bit of hope.
I can not say much but what I can say is, there is a new movie in the works.

Unfortunately, there is nothing else we can share about this rumored new film, because no further details were shared. However, it does make sense that Disney has decided to keep The Muppets legacy alive with a brand-new film.
Fans were devastated when they learned that Muppet*Vision 3D would be closing, and they have been flocking to The Muppet Theater to see the show one last time. They have also been giving alternative locations for the new Monsters, Inc. land, but it was not enough to save the beloved show.
Inside The Magic will keep readers updated as we learn more about a possible new Muppet movie.
