Just miles from the Hollywood sign, a Universal Studios guest’s day in The City of Angels turned into the stuff of nightmares.
Universal Studios Hollywood is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Los Angeles and features attractions inspired by beloved properties like Jurassic Park (1993), King Kong (2005), and more. A studio tour immerses theme park guests in the magic of filmmaking, and detailed lands transport them to their favorite movies, TV shows, and video games.

Unfortunately, one Universal Park guest’s day took a dark turn before they even made it to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Reddit user u/dabest1g was injured during the early hours of their family’s visit to Universal Studios Hollywood.

The guest’s family was walking through the Fountain Square area of Universal CityWalk when a wet concrete tile “gave way.” They hadn’t yet entered the Southern California theme park.

“A tile gave way and my left leg sunk,” the Universal Park guest recalled. “Got a small cut on my shin. And left with an aching leg and foot.”
The Universal Hollywood guest shared this photo of Team Members blocking off the broken outdoor flooring:
Injured at citywalk.
“A universal worker witnessed the incident,” the theme park guest continued. “Had a Universal medic come check me.”
Team Members gave the guest an ice pack, over-the-counter painkillers, a complimentary mobility scooter rental, and six Universal Express Passes.
Still, the incident severely impacted their enjoyment of Universal Studios Hollywood. The guest hinted that they intended to seek further restitution from the theme park chain.

“Still in shock this happened but glad it was me instead of my children,” they wrote. “Has anyone gone thru something similar? Any recommendations on what to do next?”
Some Universal Hollywood fans suggested the guest speak to professionals for further assessment.
“Maybe go see your doctor if you think it’s serious,” u/wrknthrewit wrote.

“Document everything, see your doctor, if there’s anything long term as [far] as care or needing followup care… you can bill Universal,” u/CitizenFreeman replied.
Others accused the guest of seeking lawsuit money they didn’t deserve for a seemingly minor injury.
“They’re probably asking how to sue and make money,” u/djxbangoo commented. “They just don’t want to say it out loud.”

u/AgitatedCockroach862 agreed:
“If your leg is legitimately severely injured and you can’t work and make a living, yeah, get to a doctor and a lawyer. But it does not sound like that’s the case at all. An injury is not an opportunity. I’m sorry you got hurt, I’m not a corporate apologist, but thankfully you weren’t seriously injured and this will be repaired so it doesn’t happen again.”
Still, some Universal Parks fans said the incident should spark change in the CityWalk area.
“They should really get rid of this area,” said u/Historical_Court1299. “This tends to happen every once in a while.”

“When I was there last year I [witnessed] a young girl probably around age 11-13 slip and hit her head pretty hard,” u/hced5737 replied. “It’s definitely an outdated thing to have where people walk and the tile isn’t really grippy enough to safely walk on.”
u/dahk14 argued that the fountain even poses a danger to Universal Studios Hollywood guests who avoid it:
“Seriously not only is it a safety hazard to the kids playing in the water but also those soaking wet kids move to other parts of CityWalk trailing water and create slipping hazards.”
