A trip to Disneyland always comes with a long list of must-do experiences. Some guests head straight for classic attractions that have been entertaining visitors for generations, while others spend their day exploring seasonal offerings that only appear for a limited time.

That’s why it’s always worth checking Disneyland’s refurbishment calendar before arriving. Even a short closure can affect your plans, especially if one of your favorite attractions is temporarily unavailable.

Next month, Disneyland will begin two scheduled closures. One is an annual tradition that many fans have come to expect, while the other marks the end of a special offering that debuted during the resort’s milestone celebration.

Haunted Mansion Closes for Its Annual Transformation

The biggest closure arriving in August involves one of Disneyland’s most iconic attractions.

Beginning August 8, Haunted Mansion will temporarily close as Disney prepares the attraction for its annual Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. Rather than serving as a lengthy refurbishment, the closure allows Imagineers to transform nearly every room into a celebration inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).

The seasonal version has become one of Disneyland’s most anticipated traditions each year.

Instead of the attraction’s traditional ghostly atmosphere, guests encounter Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero, and other familiar characters as Halloween and Christmas collide inside the historic mansion. The elaborate overlay changes scenes throughout the attraction, giving returning visitors a reason to experience the ride again even if they’ve already ridden the original version earlier in the year.

What started more than two decades ago has grown into a fan favorite.

Since first arriving in 2001, Haunted Mansion Holiday has become an annual event that many Disneyland guests specifically plan vacations around. Some visitors even prefer the seasonal version over the classic attraction because of its unique decorations, music, and festive atmosphere.

The Closure Won’t Last Long

Fortunately, guests won’t have to wait very long before the attraction returns.

Disney has confirmed that Haunted Mansion Holiday is scheduled to reopen on August 21, giving crews less than two weeks to complete the transformation. That’s a relatively quick turnaround considering the amount of work involved in changing one of Disneyland’s most elaborate attractions.

Once it reopens, the holiday version of the attraction is expected to remain available throughout the Halloween and holiday seasons.

Disney has not announced exactly when Haunted Mansion Holiday will close after the holidays, although last year’s seasonal version remained open until early January. For now, guests planning late summer, fall, or holiday visits can expect to experience the seasonal overlay instead of the original attraction.

Another Disneyland Attraction Will Also Close

Haunted Mansion isn’t the only attraction going offline next month.

Disney has also confirmed that Main Street Cinema will close beginning August 10. While it doesn’t draw the same crowds as Haunted Mansion, the attraction has remained a nostalgic stop for guests who enjoy classic Disney animation and a quieter experience on Main Street, U.S.A.

The historic theater traditionally plays some of Walt Disney’s earliest animated cartoons, giving visitors a chance to step inside for a few minutes of air conditioning while enjoying vintage Disney entertainment.

However, the cinema has been offering something different during Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary celebration.

Disneyland’s Anniversary Celebration Is Coming to an End

For the resort’s anniversary festivities, Main Street Cinema began showing The Last Verse, a short film centered on the famous “it’s a small world” song.

The film focuses on the final verse written by Richard M. Sherman, representing his last contribution to The Walt Disney Company. It became part of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary entertainment lineup, giving guests another reason to stop inside the theater during the celebration.

The timing of the closure isn’t a coincidence.

Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary celebration officially concludes on August 9, and Main Street Cinema is scheduled to close the following day. Although Disney hasn’t officially announced what will happen once the theater reopens, the timing suggests the anniversary film will likely leave with the conclusion of the celebration.

Many fans expect the attraction to return to its traditional lineup of classic animated shorts, though Disney has not confirmed those plans.

No Reopening Date Has Been Announced

Unlike Haunted Mansion, Main Street Cinema does not currently have a published reopening date.

Disney has only confirmed that the attraction will close on August 10, leaving guests waiting for additional details about when it will welcome visitors again.

Because of that uncertainty, anyone hoping to watch The Last Verse during Disneyland’s anniversary celebration should plan to do so before the festivities conclude.

Once the closure begins, the theater’s next chapter remains unknown until Disney provides another update.

Disneyland Continues Preparing for a Busy Season

These closures arrive as Disneyland shifts from its anniversary celebration into one of the busiest times of the year.

Halloween festivities are just around the corner, bringing seasonal entertainment, decorations, themed food, and returning favorites across the resort. Preparing Haunted Mansion Holiday has become one of the biggest signs that the seasonal transition is officially underway.

While temporary attraction closures can disrupt vacation plans, they also help Disney prepare experiences that many guests specifically travel to see each year.

If you’re visiting Disneyland in August, it may be worth reviewing the refurbishment schedule before finalizing your itinerary. Haunted Mansion will only be unavailable for a short period before reopening with its seasonal overlay, while Main Street Cinema’s closure could temporarily remove one of Main Street’s quieter attractions until Disney announces what’s next.
