Disney has yet to announce when its highly anticipated Monsters Inc. Land will officially open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but construction activity continues to tell the story.

While fans likely won’t walk through the streets of Monstropolis until 2028 or 2029 based on the current pace of work, Walt Disney Imagineering has now taken another major step that shows the project is moving deeper into development.

The latest sign comes through a newly filed permit for one of the land’s most mysterious additions: the Glob Theater.

Disney Keeps the Project Moving Forward

Although Disney remains quiet about an official opening date, the company continues filing permits that steadily advance construction behind the scenes. The newest Notice of Commencement names Elite A/V Systems as the contractor for electrical work inside the future Glob Theater.

On its own, an electrical permit might not sound especially exciting. However, longtime Disney fans know these types of filings often mark the transition from structural construction into the technical installation phase. Audio, lighting, show control systems, and entertainment infrastructure typically arrive much later in a project’s timeline, making this another meaningful milestone.

Elite A/V Systems is a familiar name on Walt Disney Imagineering projects throughout Walt Disney World. The contractor regularly handles entertainment technology and show systems, making its involvement another indication that Disney is beginning to shape what guests will eventually experience inside the theater.

The Glob Theater Is Becoming a Reality

The Glob Theater will occupy the former home of Muppet*Vision 3-D, one of Disney’s most beloved attractions before it permanently closed to make way for Monstropolis. Disney has now opened Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets on Sunset Boulevard in the theme park, replacing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.

This latest filing joins several previous permits that have already brought additional contractors onto the project. Companies specializing in custom fabrication, scenic construction, audio-visual systems, and exhibit installation are now working on transforming the building into an entirely new entertainment venue.

Outside, the changes are becoming easier to spot. Scaffolding now covers portions of the former theater as crews continue reshaping the exterior into something that better fits the streets of Monstropolis. Inside, construction has been progressing for months, dating back to the first permits filed in late 2025.

Disney Still Isn’t Revealing the Show

One of the biggest questions surrounding the project remains unanswered.

Disney has confirmed that the building will become the Glob Theater, but the company has not revealed what type of show guests will actually experience there. Whether it features live performers, animatronics, multimedia effects, or some combination of all three remains unknown.

That secrecy has fueled plenty of speculation among Disney fans, especially as more construction permits continue appearing without any official announcement about the attraction itself.

With D23 Expo approaching, many fans believe Disney could finally pull back the curtain on what the theater will offer. The company has historically used the event to unveil new details about upcoming lands and attractions, making it a logical place for another Monstropolis update.

A Larger Land Continues Taking Shape

The Glob Theater won’t stand alone.

It will serve as one of the anchor experiences inside Monsters Inc. Land alongside Disney’s ambitious suspended door coaster inspired by the famous door vault sequence from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. (2001).

Construction on that attraction has also accelerated throughout 2026. Track pieces have already arrived, vertical construction continues to rise, and aerial photography has shown significant progress on the massive coaster building.

Together, the theater and coaster are expected to completely transform this corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

When Could Monsters Inc. Land Open?

Disney still has not announced an opening date, and the company continues avoiding any public timeline.

However, looking strictly at the amount of construction still underway, most industry observers expect Monsters Inc. Land to debut sometime in 2028 or possibly 2029. The size of the project, combined with the extensive infrastructure work, coaster construction, show building transformation, and themed environments still left to complete, makes those estimates increasingly realistic.

The newest Glob Theater permit certainly doesn’t answer the opening-date question. Instead, it confirms something equally important: Disney is continuing to invest heavily in Monstropolis behind construction walls.

Every new contractor, every new permit, and every visible construction update brings the land another step closer to welcoming guests. While fans may still have several years to wait before stepping into the world of Mike, Sulley, and Boo, Disney’s latest filing makes one thing clear—development is moving forward exactly as planned, even if the company isn’t ready to reveal when the doors to Monstropolis will finally open.

We’ll continue to provide updates on the latest construction happening at Monsters Inc. Land and beyond at Walt Disney World.
