Just weeks ago, a partial closure was issued for an iconic Magic Kingdom location–now that shutdown has expanded.

Walt Disney World is filled with cutting-edge attractions and nostalgic experiences, but there are also a number of popular locations outside of the resort’s rides and roller coasters. From photo spots like the famous “purple wall” in Tomorrowland to the best places to watch the Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular, there are many locations that guests just love.
Between 2010 and 2014, the Walt Disney World Resort developed the New Fantasyland area around Magic Kingdom’s park icon, Cinderella Castle. Updates included the opening of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train–the ever-popular coaster that often sees some of the longest lines in the theme park–as well as Storybook Circus, which replaced Mickey’s Toontown Fair.

Within the larger ride updates, the Tangled restroom area debuted. And now, all guests are blocked from accessing the lantern-clad location at Magic Kingdom.
For years, the Tangled-themed rest area—tucked between Haunted Mansion and “it’s a small world” in Fantasyland—has served as more than just a place to take a break. Known among seasoned visitors as one of the most immersive restroom experiences Disney has ever created, the area is now fully closed, marking a notable shift in what had initially appeared to be a limited refurbishment.
What began as a partial shutdown has now grown into a complete closure of the Tangled restrooms in Fantasyland. Construction walls first appeared around the men’s side of the facility on April 13, 2026, leading many guests to assume a phased refurbishment was underway. However, the situation has since changed, and both the male and female restrooms are now inaccessible, as well as the family restroom.

While Disney has not released an official timeline or detailed explanation for the work, the expansion of the closure suggests something more comprehensive than routine maintenance. Whether this involves infrastructure upgrades, plumbing work, or a broader thematic refresh remains unclear.
The Tangled restrooms first debuted in 2013 as part of the larger New Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World Resort, an ambitious project that redefined much of the park’s footprint. Inspired by Disney’s 2010 animated hit Tangled, the area quickly stood out—not just for its functionality, but for its storytelling.
From Rapunzel’s tower rising above the trees to the glowing lanterns that illuminate the space after sunset, the location became an attraction in its own right. Guests often lingered here for photos, especially at night when the lantern effects create one of Fantasyland’s most atmospheric settings.

It’s this blend of utility and immersion that helped the restrooms earn a reputation as “the best bathrooms” in Magic Kingdom—a title that, while unofficial, has been widely echoed across fan communities for over a decade. According to reports, Disney has a map in the area diverting all guests to nearby facilities.
With all restrooms now closed, visitors navigating an already busy section of the park will feel the impact. Fantasyland consistently draws large crowds, and the removal of a high-capacity restroom location adds extra pressure on nearby facilities.
Guests may now need to reroute to restrooms closer to Liberty Square or farther into Fantasyland, potentially increasing wait times during peak hours. For families and those planning longer park days, this kind of logistical change can have a ripple effect. Despite the closure, the surrounding Tangled-themed rest area has not been completely shuttered. The adjacent seating space—long appreciated as a shaded retreat—remains open to guests.

This section continues to offer:
- Covered seating areas
- A relatively quiet place to recharge
- Charging stations for mobile devices
In a park where finding a place to sit can be a challenge, this remaining access provides at least some relief for visitors needing a break.
This latest development is part of a wider trend at Magic Kingdom, where multiple projects and refurbishments are unfolding simultaneously. Disney parks regularly undergo updates to maintain operational standards and refresh guest experiences, but the cumulative effect can be noticeable—especially in high-traffic areas like Fantasyland.
Recent years have seen a mix of ride refurbishments, dining updates, and infrastructure improvements across the resort. While these changes are essential for long-term quality, they often require short-term compromises for guests.

For now, Disney has not announced when the Tangled restrooms will reopen or whether the space will return exactly as it was. Given its popularity and iconic status within the park, Disney will surely want this area fully functioning again very soon.
Until then, this beloved Fantasyland corner remains partially accessible—but missing one of the features that made it so memorable in the first place.
