Over 30 years later, the Jurassic Park franchise refuses to go extinct. But it’s not all about new films like Jurassic World Rebirth, or Universal Studios’ theme park attractions. Alternative content has also gained traction in recent years, particularly in animated form. But we aren’t talking about the Netflix shows, Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory.

LEGO adaptations have long been a reliable way for major franchises to explore playful retellings, and this year, they’ve seen a renewed surge in popularity thanks to the likes of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past and LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails on Disney+.

These shorts retell classic stories with that signature LEGO humor, all the while respecting the originals’ legacy. Jurassic Park joined the trend in 2023 with its own experiment — a short that arrived on Peacock and remains available to stream.

An Official Jurassic Park Reboot, With a New Cast

LEGO Jurassic Park: The Unofficial Retelling premiered in 2023 to celebrate the original film’s 30th anniversary. The 22-minute special re-enacts the events of Steven Spielberg’s classic entirely in LEGO form and was directly linked to the anniversary merchandise released at the time.

In this version, an older Dr. Ian Malcolm, who discovers his old journal, tells us the story of “what happened that dreadful night at Jurassic Park.” As the synopsis notes: “what could possibly go wrong? Absolutely everything… just as he had predicted!”

The original cast — Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Ariana Richards, Joe Mazzello, Richard Attenborough, Wayne Knight, Bob Peck, and Samuel L. Jackson — don’t return in LEGO Jurassic Park: The Unofficial Retelling.

The new cast includes Adrian Hough as Alan Grant, Jewel Staite as Ellie Sattler, Bradley Duffey as Ian Malcolm, Ayla Rose Evans as Lex Murphy, Dominic Good as Tim Murphy, Mackenzie Gray as John Hammond, William Kuklis as Dennis Nedry, Ian Hanlin as Robert Muldoon, and Alex Barima as Ray Arnold.

Could a More Serious Jurassic Reboot Happen?

While great fun, the short amounts to nothing more than a LEGO parody of the sci-fi blockbuster classic, but it raises a question: could a real Jurassic Park reboot ever happen?

Whether it’s another film, a TV series (animated or live action), fans are a lot more prepared for a full-fledged Jurassic Park reboot than they ever have been, especially with other major IPs like Harry Potter having already been given the remake treatment.

Not only that, but the latest film, Jurassic World Rebirth, has left many fans wanting a full reset with a reboot that ties in more closely to Michael Crichton’s original best-seller. These days, never say never.
