The search is underway for a new actor to replace Daniel Craig as iconic superspy James Bond, following the actor’s explosive exit in his fifth and final outing, No Time to Die (2021).

Last month, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Dune, Dune: Part Two) would direct the reboot, which is being produced by Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and David Heyman (the Harry Potter films) under Amazon MGM Studios.

The untitled 007 film will be the twenty-eighth theatrical entry in the long-running franchise and will feature the eighth actor to take up the mantle of Bond in film.

They will follow Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig, whose collective performances span over 60 years.

Meanwhile, another Bond reboot is in development, with a yet-to-be-named actor in the title role. Developed and published by IO Interactive under license from Amazon MGM Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Eon Productions, “007 First Light” dropped its trailer in June:

While the new Bond actor hasn’t been confirmed, fans are convinced (as are we) that it’s Irish actor Patrick Gibson, best known for playing the young version of fictional Miami serial killer Dexter Morgan AKA “the Bay Harbor Butcher” in the Paramount+ series Dexter: Original Sin (2024). And there’s another actor in the trailer whose identity is just as obvious.

Lennie James, who played zombie apocalypse survivor Morgan in AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead appears in the trailer (also unconfirmed) as Bond’s mentor John Greenway.

What’s “007 First Light” About?

The third-person game centers on a Bond origin story similar to Craig’s Casino Royale (2006). “007 First Light is a thrilling narrative action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive,” the official website‘s description for the game reads.

“Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.”

“007 First Light” releases on major consoles sometime next year.

There’s no release date for the new James Bond film.
