The first official trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) has arrived. With a new character ensemble and thrilling new dinosaurs, the seventh film marks the beginning of “a new Jurassic era”. But that may have involved killing off two beloved iconic characters.
Jurassic World Rebirth follows highly skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) as she leads her specialist team, which includes Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis, on a top-secret, high-stakes mission to retrieve DNA from three colossal dinosaurs.
But in true Jurassic fashion, things go awry when Zora’s team encounters a shipwrecked civilian family on a mysterious, dinosaur-inhabited jungle island in South America, where a “sinister, shocking” secret that’s been kept hidden from the world for decades awaits them.

With a new cast leading the action, unfortunately, no characters from previous Jurassic Park/Jurassic World films, such as Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), BD Wong (Henry Wu), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), and Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood), will be returning.
Whether or not returning characters includes the likes of regular dinosaurs, Rexy and Blue, remains to be seen. However, according to the official plot synopsis, the film takes place “five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion” to find that “the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs.”
In other words, Jurassic World Rebirth is undoing the events of its predecessor, which saw dinosaurs flourishing all around the world.
It adds: “Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.” This means that most the dinosaurs living in regions all around the world are now dying, or have already died out.

At the end of Dominion, Rexy, the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex who also appeared in Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World (2015), and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), finds a new home in Biosyn Valley in Italy’s Dolomites. Meanwhile, Blue, Owen Grady’s raptor, who also appears throughout the Jurassic World trilogy, continues to reside in the Sierra Nevada mountains with her offspring, Beta.
These were happy endings for the two fan-favorite dinosaurs, but it sounds like Jurassic World Rebirth may have killed them off unceremoniously. If the plot synopsis is anything to go by, dinosaurs have been dropping like flies all around the world, and why should Rexy and Blue be an exception to this rule?
Here’s to hoping we’re wrong, as these are two of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise, even if they’d eat you alive given the chance.
Either way, we’ll find out on July 2 when Jurassic World Rebirth stomps into theaters.
