Have you ever evacuated from Disneyland Resort’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride? Many Disney Parks fans dream of getting walked off a favorite attraction, but for those who haven’t gotten lucky, some guests have shared their experiences on social media.
Although Pirates of the Caribbean is a fan-favorite ride, it’s also one of Disney’s most controversial. Beyond its association with Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow), the attraction has faced backlash for its recently updated bride auction scene.
Walt Disney Imagineers turned animatronic brides-for-sale into independent female pirates, stirring cheers from some Disney Parks fans and nostalgic upset from others.

Some Disney Parks fans felt Imagineering didn’t go far enough. During a viral moment in 2023, some women said the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort attractions felt “rapey.” Others felt the offensive ride should be “canceled” because of the male animatronics’ gazes toward female theme park guests.
Nevertheless, Pirates of the Caribbean draws thousands of Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park guests daily. Like any constantly-used Disney Park attraction, it occasionally breaks down, necessitating an evacuation.

TikToker @laurenbridetobe recently shared her experience evacuating the New Orleans Square version of Pirates of the Caribbean:
@laurenbridetobe Stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean and had to evacuate out up the stairs of the ride! 🏴☠️✨ #piratesofthecaribbean #stuckonride #disneyland
In the video, Disney cast members instructed guests to climb out of their boats and onto the emergency evacuation walkways. The TikToker filmed a Captain Jack Sparrow animatronic while exiting, showing a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the beloved attraction.
The guests walked up the final hill to the exit platform, climbing a steep staircase to return to Disneyland Park.

It’s unclear what caused this Pirates of the Caribbean evacuation. However, the Disneyland Resort ride eventually reopened and operated normally following the incident.
