Multiple Walt Disney World Resort guests recently shared their experiences after an unusual closure of EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster on Monday evening. Half the dual-track ride broke down, and thousands of theme park guests with Virtual Queue reservations were refused entry.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened in EPCOT’s World Discovery neighborhood in 2022, next to the Space 220 restaurant. The indoor reverse-launch roller coaster remains incredibly popular, requiring a Virtual Queue reservation or Lightning Lane Single Pass for entry.
However, in recent months, Walt Disney World Resort has faced criticism over unaddressed water damage on the attraction.

On Monday, Redditor u/ElectricalState258 shared a photo of the empty Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind loading area after half of the ride broke down. The guest had Boarding Group 29, usually called early in the day, but wasn’t notified that it was time to ride until 9:00 p.m. After getting in line, it took the guest an hour and a half to board–this process typically takes 30 minutes or less.
Broken guardians 🥲
Other EPCOT guests also shared their experiences with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on Monday. u/arcoiris21 had Boarding Group 81 and was “unable to be accommodated” before the Disney park closed–boarding groups normally go past 100, meaning that thousands of guests missed their opportunity to ride.
u/MichiganAngler saw the Virtual Queue wait time get as high as two hours while paid Lightning Lane guests waited up to an hour.
“I was there [Monday] too,” u/snesjerry commented. “My boarding group turned away which sucked but I was there on Sunday too so I got to ride the other day at least….”

u/cavalier_92 made it onto Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind but said it seemed like Disney cast members were sending smaller groups into the pre-show and loading area because half of the ride was broken:
“Don’t know what was broken but it was such a weird experience. We had a LL and they only had like 30 people in the preshow. The hallway of hell after was clear and we basically walked on from there. I never seen that.”
Some Walt Disney World Resort guests said EPCOT also experienced issues over the weekend.

“It was broken most of Sunday too,” u/pleasebuysoap recalled. “My husband made it as far as having his lap bar lowered when they shut down (around 1:30?) and it didn’t open again until close to 8:00. Ended up getting a refund for the [Lightning Lanes] we bought.”
Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t publicly acknowledged ongoing issues with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
