Disneyland has filed a demolition permit for an unknown resort area. Twitter/X user ParkWizar1 keeps track of new developments from both Disney and Universal theme parks, noticing The Walt Disney Company had recently filed a new demolition permit earlier this week.

The permit application was received on September 9, 2024, and is listed as “Commercial” work. The exact location of the project is unknown, though the permit is still exciting for several reasons. Given the sheer amount of change the Disneyland Resort has undergone recently, it’s possible this new permit has something to do with the ongoing construction work at Haunted Mansion.

This classic dark ride is receiving a brand-new outdoor queue area, with large chunks of land and pavement being ripped up to make way for this new expansion.

Another possibility could be found with the original Disneyland Railroad, which closed down for refurbishment recently.

It’s even more likely that this new demolition permit has something to do with Downtown Disney, as the outdoor shopping and dining center has seen extensive changes over the past several months. Earlier this summer, Disney revealed it would be demolishing Tortilla Joe’s, a former fan-favorite location.

Disneyland also recently changed the way guests enter Downtown Disney, debuting a new security checkpoint earlier this year.

While the exact location of Disney’s new demo project remains a mystery, guests are likely to get answers soon.

This is far from the first permit Disney has filed recently, with the company preparing to transform its theme parks in unprecedented ways. A record number of rides and attractions are set to close permanently, with fan-favorite locations like Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and maybe even The Muppets finding themselves on the chopping block.

These plans and more were revealed during Disney’s D23 fan event this August, during which the company laid out its upcoming projects over the next 10 years or so.

Several new rides and attractions are set to be built soon at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, with the latter receiving several game-changing expansions.

Two of these expansions are based on Pixar franchises like Cars and Monsters Inc., the former coming to Magic Kingdom, and the latter planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also receiving a makeover, with multiple experiences, such as TriceraTop Spin, DINOSAUR, and DinoLand U.S.A., all closing permanently.
