When the Harry Potter reboot, which is being conjured up as a television series this time, finally arrives on the streaming services HBO and Max sometime in 2026, it will be an incredibly hard pill for fans of the iconic film series to swallow.

While the cast has yet to be confirmed, we know that Francesca Gardiner (HBO’s SuccessionHis Dark MaterialsKilling Eve) is the showrunner and that Harry Potter author and Wizarding World creator JK Rowling is one of the executive producers alongside Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, and The Last of Us), who will also direct several episodes.

For many fans, the Harry Potter television series will replace the eight films, which starred Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Ralph Fiennes (Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort), and several other actors who have become synonymous with their Wizarding World counterparts.

Fortunately, the films aren’t actually going anywhere. While the television series is set to air over a 10-year period (each of its seven seasons will be based on one of the books by JK Rowling), Warner Bros. has stated that the films will “remain at the core of the franchise.”

This is hardly surprising, though, as all the real-world Wizarding World experiences are inspired by, or based upon the beloved film series, such as Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.

However, a newly-released virtual experience has already given us a taste of what we can expect from the upcoming reboot.

Naturally, the new online multiplayer video game “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” (2024) has countless similarities to the films, but it features an entirely new visual style — which is a lot more cartoonish than last year’s open-world game “Hogwarts Legacy” –and an all-new voice cast for the likes of Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Fleur Delacour, and Cedric Diggory, for starters.

And, as it’s set during the first few books/filmsPhilosopher’s Stone through Goblet of Fire (it includes Beauxbatons and Durmstrang as all three schools compete for the “Triwizard Schools Quidditch Cup”), it also re-creates several iconic Quidditch-related moments.

Of course, as the television series is said to be a “faithful adaptation” of the seven books, this won’t be the last time we see iconic Harry Potter moments re-created for an entirely new generation of fans.
