An icon of Disneyland Resort is shutting down in one week, affecting thousands of unprepared families. Here’s what you need to know!

While Sleeping Beauty Castle is arguably the most remarkable sight in Disneyland Park, Walt Disney’s original theme park is home to many other icons, such as the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square, Matterhorn Bobsleds in Fantasyland, Space Mountain in Tomorrowland, and the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Unfortunately, a Disneyland icon is shutting down next week, blocking guests from enjoying the experience until next year.

Three child-like dolls wearing white outfits and white hats are singing and holding songbooks titled "Deck the Halls." One doll sits in a golden wheelchair, capturing the spirit of it's a small world. Per the official Disneyland Resort website, “it’s a small world” is closing temporarily at Walt Disney’s original theme park next week. The Disneyland icon is shutting down on September 16, blocking thousands of guests from enjoying the beloved attraction.

The attraction is scheduled to reopen on November 15 as “it’s a small world” Holiday, the seasonal overlay that celebrates the splendor of the holidays “with a festive Yuletide take on this classic attraction.” This overlay is part of the yearly celebrations of the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort.

Theme park and entertainment journalist Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) confirmed the news through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Gustin added, “During the 2-month closure, crews will install holiday theming and work on lighting and general maintenance throughout the ride.”

Sadly, fans of the iconic attraction won’t be able to experience its original version until early 2025, as “it’s a small world” Holiday is scheduled to remain open through January 6, 2025.

We could predict that the removal of this seasonal overlay will last through early March, considering a similar 2-month period. However, no official reopening date for the original version of “it’s a small world” has been announced yet.

During the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort, guests can also experience a frightfully fun overlay at the Haunted Mansion inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).

Guests can witness a ghoulishly glorious sight at Haunted Mansion Holiday along with Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and even Zero, who take over the iconic attraction at New Orleans Square every year.
