The Walt Disney Company founded the Disney Channel in 1983, fundamentally changing the world of broadcast television forever. Over the last four decades, the Disney Channel has remained one of the most popular sources of entertainment for kids, tweens, and teens, spawning some of the world’s biggest celebrities along the way.

Shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and That’s So Raven defined the early to late 2000s and 2010s, many of which inspired their own spinoff series and movies.

One of the biggest hits on the Disney Channel was Jessie, a show that starred Debby Ryan, Peyton List, Skai Jackson, Karan Brar, and the late Cameron Boyce. Running from 2011 through 2015, Jessie quickly became one of Disney’s most successful and iconic shows.

The series saw Debby Ryan (Jessie) become part of the Ross family after babysitting the four children in their luxurious New York apartment. Jessie became a mother figure for the children, making compassion and love a cornerstone of the show.

Shortly after going off the air, Bunk’d, a spinoff of Jessie, debuted on the Disney Channel. Bunk’d saw some of the main cast move away from their New York penthouse featured in Jessie and into a rustic camp called Camp Kikiwaka.

The series played off of classic “fish-out-of-water” tropes, with the Ross family having to adapt to the rugged lifestyle of the wilderness.
