The upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine will bring the X-Men and various assorted mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the original Juggernaut is not returning. The reason? The suit is just too much of a bother.
Deadpool & Wolverine (known as Deadpool 3 until recently) will star Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the title characters, two of the most popular and important characters in modern Marvel Comics. While the plot details are still mostly under wraps, a recent trailer for the film indicates that Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool, will be captured by the Time Variance Authority (introduced in the Disney+ series Loki) and put to work tidying up the Multiverse.
It appears that Deadpool’s journey will find him encountering a huge number of Marvel figures from past movies produced by 20th Century Fox before its acquisition by the Walt Disney Company. Jennifer Garner (as Elektra), Aaron Stanford (as Pyro), and versions of Toad and Sabretooth are all confirmed to appear, as are Randal Reeder (as Buck) and Lewis Tan (as Shatterstar) from the previous Deadpool movies.

The chances of multiple other X-Men characters appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine are extremely high. However, Vinnie Jones, who played Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), recently revealed in an interview with Yahoo UK that he had been asked to make an appearance and declined it. The main reason is that he truly detested the ordeal of wearing the X-Men villain’s costume, and director Shawn Levy and Disney just couldn’t persuade him to do it.
Vinnie Jones said, “Funnily enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now, and I spoke to the director, and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically…I mean, it had its mental toll as well, because you’re in it, and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine].”
In the interview, the Juggernaut actor also laid into X-Men: The Last Stand (which was directed by Brett Ratner and currently holds 57% on Rotten Tomatoes), calling it a “shambles” and that his part was “not the same role [he] had signed on to do.”

As a character, Juggernaut (also known as Cain Marko, stepbrother of Professor Charles Xavier) reappeared in Deadpool 2 (2018). This time, he was largely a digital creation, with digital facial capture by director David Leitch and digitally modulated vocals by Ryan Reynolds himself.
We’ll have to wait and see what other mutants show up in Deadpool & Wolverine, but we at least know that Vinnie Jones just couldn’t be bothered about it.
