In a strange move, it looks like Pixar may spoil its upcoming film Inside Out 2 before it even comes to theaters. Here’s how they’re doing it.

Directed by Pete Docter, Inside Out (2015) is one of the most popular films in Pixar and Disney history, earning over $858 million as well as the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Disney fans just couldn’t get enough of the adventures of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Sadness (Bill Hader/Tony Hale), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling/Liza Lapira) inside Riley’s mind.

All of these characters have returned for the Pixar sequel alongside new emotions, including Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Nostalgia (likely June Squibb). While the basic plot for the film has been revealed in trailers, nothing else is really known about the movie. However, it seems like Pixar wants to change that.

Recently, Pixar and the Walt Disney Company have revealed that two books about Inside Out 2 will be released. The first is The Art of Inside Out 2, taking a closer look at the concept art and behind-the-scenes work that made the film what it is with an introduction from director Kelsey Mann. The second is a children’s book about the movie.

While all of this is fairly standard for Disney, what’s surprising is when they’ll be released. The Art of Inside Out 2 is scheduled to be published on May 7, while the Inside Out 2 Little Golden Book will come out on May 28. Both dates are before the film premieres in theaters on June 14.

This means that crucial information about the film can be revealed to audiences before they even go see the movie. Yes, it will be a completely different experience, but it can still ruin what is looking to be a much-needed hit for one of the most legendary animation studios of all time.

That being said, we have no way of knowing the book’s contents before they are published, so it may be nothing to worry about. But if people want to avoid spoilers of the Pixar film, they’ll likely have to avoid these books as well.
