Nickelodeon has been one of the premiere entertainment brands for decades now, churning out iconic shows like Spongebob SquarepantsBubble Guppies, Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesAaahh!!! Real Monsters, Loud House, Paw Patrol, The Wild Thornberrys, Monster High, and Hey Arnold!

While the cable channel seems like a forgotten memory, Nickelodeon still lives on in Paramount+. However, some recent titles from the beloved kids’ studio have met the axe on the streaming platform.

In a surprising move, Paramount has decided to purge eight Nickelodeon series from its streaming service, including the Blue’s Clues revival Blue’s Clues & You, It’s Pony, Middlemost Post, Ollie’s Pack, Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, Santiago of the Seas, That Girl Lay Lay, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

They’re also removing the made-for-Paramount+ movies Big Nate (2022) and Rugrats (2021), a reboot of the beloved animated series.

This is part of a content removal process that the studio reported in the Q4 earnings call. Paramount explained the reasoning in its 10-K filing:

“In connection with our continued review of our international content strategy, during the first quarter of 2024 we made a strategic decision to focus on content with mass global appeal. As part of this, we are rationalizing original content on Paramount+, especially internationally, and improving the efficiency of our linear network programming.”

The filing continued:

“As a result, we have reviewed our expansive global content portfolio and are removing select content from our platforms.”

The removal of these titles is particularly surprising because their “Kids & Family” content is the most watched and re-watched programming on the streaming platform, according to parent company Paramount Global.
