The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal will likely be replaced in a new project by the Mad Titan himself, Thanos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since he first appeared as breakout character Oberyn Martell in the HBO series Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has become one of the most popular actors on television, a respected film actor, and, needless to say, the adoptive father of Baby Yoda. Pascal has become a very busy person, and it makes sense that he will not be able to continue with every role that he has originally been cast in.

That seems to be the case with Weapons, the much-anticipated upcoming film from Zach Cregger, which Pedro Pascal had originally been cast in. Although Pascal already has a good thing going with The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, both of which are two of the most-watched streaming series on TV, taking the lead role in the follow-up to the surprise hit horror movie Barbarian (2022) was still a coup.

However, it recently came out that Pedro Pascal’s commitment to the role of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four, the much-delayed reboot of Marvel’s First Family, meant that he had to step away from the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin, the actor who portrayed Thanos in six MCU films and the What If..? animated series, is the prime choice to replace Pascal.

While Josh Brolin has not yet been confirmed to be taking the role in Weapons, it is notable that the actor who starred as one of the most distinctive and well-known characters in the MCU would still be second choice to Pedro Pascal. In a strange way, they actually could end up flipping roles, which is a bit amusing to think about.

Despite (or perhaps because of) Pedro Pascal’s enormous popularity, the future of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian is somewhat murky. A feature film starring Din Djrain and Grogu is currently in the works at Lucasfilm, which is attempting to reboot the Star Wars franchise in Dave Filoni‘s image, but any word of a fourth season of the show seems to be scarce.

Fortunately, if he never returns to The Mandalorian after the movie, Pedro Pascal will still have three or four huge franchises to fall back on.
