Just weeks after Bullet Train (2022) David Leitch jumped ship from Jurassic World 4 (2025), the upcoming film has reportedly found a new director.
Universal announced Jurassic World 4 on January 23, 2024. Amblin Partners, a collaboration between Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg, has reportedly fast-tracked this next installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. Despite the revolving door of directors, the Jurassic World sequel is set to premiere on July 2, 2025.
In just over a year, Universal must craft, film, produce, and polish the seventh installment in the Jurassic Park cinematic universe. But it seems like the creative team is moving as fast as a scientist being chased by dinosaurs as The Hollywood Reporter claims the film has found its new director.

Former Indie sci-fi director Gareth Edwards is allegedly in talks with Universal Pictures to direct Jurassic Park 4. The experienced filmmaker was once best known for Monsters (2010) but eventually hit the mainstream with Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). With monsters and aliens under his belt, Edwards is certainly experienced in creature wrangling!
The Lucasfilm alum will face quite the challenge, as Leitch “amicably” left Jurassic World 4 because producers planned to be more heavy-handed after poor fan reactions to Jurassic World: Dominion (2022). Writer David Koepp is said to be multiple drafts into the script, but production hasn’t begun.
What Do We Know About Jurassic World 4?
Universal Pictures hasn’t revealed much information about the untitled Jurassic Park sequel. But as with any beloved franchise, insiders have leaked some details for eager fans!

No official casting announcements are available, but one report claims that Jurassic World 4 will feature an all-new cast. It’s unclear if Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), or Jurassic World: Dominion stars Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), and Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood) will return.
Catching Up With The Franchise
Though controversial among fans, the most recent Jurassic World film earned more than one billion dollars at the box office. Directed by Colin Trevorrow with a screenplay by Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael, it was said to be the “epic conclusion to the Jurassic Park era.” Obviously, that didn’t last too long.

“Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world,” streaming service Peacock writes of the movie. “This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators.”
