Actress Jenna Ortega has become one of the hottest names in Hollywood in just a short amount of time.

Just recently, Jenna Ortega wrapped up filming on Warner Bros.’ upcoming anticipated film Beetlejuice 2. The film, which is a sequel to the iconic 1988 movie, saw Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder return, with Tim Burton back at the helm. Just like Johnny Depp in the early portion of his career, Ortega has developed a professional collaboration with Tim Burton that has seen her career quickly take off.

Ortega played the role of Lydia’s daughter in the film, which is expected to be released in late 2024. She was seen riding a bike during a leaked scene, but no other details have been given about the film and what the plot may look like when it is released in theaters.

Of course, this isn’t the first major project for Jenna Ortega by any stretch of the imagination. The versatile actress has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry with a range of compelling performances, but perhaps none as iconic as her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s hit television series, Wednesday.

Jenna Ortega’s rise to fame began at a young age, showcasing her talent and versatility across various genres. However, it was her embodiment of the macabre and mysterious Wednesday Addams that truly solidified her status as a rising star. In this contemporary take on the classic Addams Family characters, Ortega brought a fresh and modern perspective to the role, captivating audiences with her nuanced performance.

The character of Wednesday Addams is a beloved and timeless figure known for her dark humor, deadpan delivery, and gothic sensibility. Ortega seamlessly embraced these characteristics, adding her own flair to the role while staying true to the essence of Wednesday. Her portrayal was praised for its depth as she navigated the complexities of the character’s relationships within the quirky Addams family. Wednesday on Netflix not only allowed Ortega to showcase her acting prowess but also provided a platform for her to connect with a broader audience. The show’s success can be attributed not only to its nostalgic appeal but also to Ortega’s ability to make Wednesday Addams a relatable and endearing character for a new generation.

Even with its broad appeal and major success, Wednesday has still had its fair share of issues in the last few months. As the SAG-AFTRA strikes put the Netflix series behind schedule, many fans wondered what might be next for Ortega and Tim Burton. With Beetlejuice 2 out of the way, though, multiple reports have shared that Netflix is ready to begin filming this upcoming spring 2024 in Ireland. However, the show has reportedly written off Percy Hynes White (Xavier Thorpe) after allegations of sexual assault have come forward.

In addition to reportedly writing off Percy Hynes White, there have also been questions about other cast members and if they’ll be reprising their roles. Right now, we have no official confirmation on returning cast and likely will not for months. However, another report has come forward about Jenna Ortega’s iconic role, which has now been axed.

Inside the Magic previously shared the Deadline report that Ortega would not be returning to the Scream franchise. After playing the role of Tara Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), Ortega was reportedly set to return for Scream VII. However,  Paramount fired Melissa Barrera (Samantha Carpenter) over comments made over the Israeli-Palestine conflict, and Jenna Ortega’s schedule reportedly will not allow her to return to the franchise as she’s set to play Wednesday Addams in Season 2 of the show soon.

While scheduling conflicts happen from time to time, they can lead to burnt bridges as studios move on from actors or actresses. It seems that Paramount may want to move in a different direction with the Scream franchise following the firing of Barrera, but there’s no doubt that Ortega’s star power would have helped the film immensely. With her choosing her Netflix role and deciding not to return to Paramount, it will be interesting to see what the future looks like for her with the studio.
