To be a Disney Imagineer is to be one of the most revered figures at the Walt Disney Company. Without them, Disney park guests would not have nearly the quality and quantity of magic they have today. Although things have come a long way since Walt’s day, one of his original team has some thoughts regarding one of the most popular and recent rides.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is becoming one of the most popular attractions at EPCOT. The indoor coaster featuring Marvel’s favorite gang of ragtag outlaws often has a full virtual queue and fans more than willing to spend a few extra bucks for a Lightning Lane pass, but how does it hold up in the eyes of a veteran Imagineer?

Disney Legend and original Imagineer, Bob Gurr, was interviewed by D23 this week, and he had more than a few thoughts to share on the subject of modern Park attractions, the Disney100 Exhibition, and Cosmic Rewind. The attraction is undoubtedly impressive in the eyes of the fans, but what does a seasoned pro think of this modern marvel?

Bob Gurr truly is a Disney Legend, as he is responsible for bringing a majority of Disney experiences to life. The former Imagineer has often said,

“If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it.”

From the cars of Autopia to Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Gurr has hand his hand in a lot of Disney projects. It should come as no surprise that modern Imagineers take a lot from Gurr’s work and designs. So when he was given the opportunity to ride one of the most popular rides to come out of Disney in recent years, he had to share his critique.

Gurr told D23,

“On one hand, it’s probably the most perfect combination of motions, and what you see, that I have ever ever experienced… It is one of the most incredible pieces of structure, wheel design, method of control, I have ever seen.”

“It is a super bullet proof machine on a track — and the fact that that track got built so absolutely glass smooth, even though it’s throwing you around with all these forces, none of which are sharp and abrupt, they are just big sweeping motions. That ride really has got my attention. It’s so good that I will never ride it again.”

It’s one thing to get major critical acclaim, but to absolutely stun a master of the art form is truly quite an accomplishment. You can listen to Bob Gurr’s thoughts on rollercoasters, Walt Disney, and more in the full interview found on D23’s podcast.
