Many instantly thought that this was related to the rumors circulating the internet that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster may be receiving a retheme.
However, a few weeks later, a permit was filed to “sand, prime and paint exterior guitar icon”. Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has revealed the entire final project along with a statement, indicating that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is here to stay despite rumors of a retheme.
The permit that Disney filed indicated that Disney was just performing generalized work for the iconic guitar at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, meaning we suspected nothing major to change to the iconic element that sits outside of the Hollywood Studios attraction aside from a new paint job.
And last week, Disney began to remove the scaffolding, revealing the top portion of the guitar.
Now, Walt Disney Imagineering shared a photo of the final project along with a statement, indicating that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is here to stay despite rumors of a retheme.

Recently, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith covers were dropped revealing the dazzling refurbishment of everyone’s favorite oversized guitar at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at @WaltDisneyWorld Resort. After weeks of preparation, body work and some fresh paint, the iconic guitar has been restored to look better than ever and keep our fans rocking on. Thanks to our rock stars from the Florida Design & Show Quality team! 🎸⭐️

We do want to note that even though suspicions of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster being rethemed have circulated the internet, Disney has not announced any retheming of this ride. In fact, Walt Disney Imagineering’s post indicates that the ride is here to stay as they say “the iconic guitar has been restored to look better than ever and keep our fans rocking on”.
