We have been keeping up with all things Eternals (2021), including the official red carpet premiere, which took place on Monday night at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, California. However, due to potential exposure to COVID-19, members of the new cast will be doing remaining press events virtually.

According to Yahoo News, actresses Angelina Jolie (Thena), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Gemma Chan (Sersi), and Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), as well as director Chloé Zhao, were all absent from the Women in Hollywood event hosted by Elle yesterday. The reason for their absence is due to potential exposure to COVID-19. There is no official word if the COVID exposure came from the red carpet premiere.

Elle Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia went on record to confirm that the stars are quarantining at this time, stating that it is currently the safest thing to do for everyone involved. Marvel also confirmed that the film’s remaining press events will be conducted virtually going forward.

A Disney spokesperson told PEOPLE that these decisions were made out of caution for the cast and everyone involved with the press events.

“Earlier today we were made aware of a possible exposure to COVID-19, and while all of our talent have tested negative, out of an abundance of caution, we are pivoting to virtual appearances rather than in-person events.”

The Elle event was the first time that the awards were held in person since the start of the pandemic. Last year’s event was ultimately canceled, like most events nationwide, due to the ongoing pandemic. The female stars of the film were expected to deliver speeches at the event on Tuesday.
