The third film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to showcase a brand-new selection of characters that will take place during a time after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The lead character in Eternals will be Sersi (played by Gemma Chan), one of the regular-human appearing superheroes who lives life normally among regular humans on earth.

Her story will be supported by Ikaris (played by Richard Madden), Kingo (played by Kumail Nanjiana), Ajak (played by Salma Hayek), and of course Thena (played by Angelina Jolie). We previously reported on how Angelina Jolie was able to help a struggling co-star on the set of the film.

Fans are excited to see legendary actress Angelina Jolie play the role of Thena not only due to her critically acclaimed status but due to the nature of the superhero role itself. Thena is one of the best warriors of the Eternals as she is able to make weapons appear out of nowhere, thus making her a boastful warrior and “right-hand” woman to have on your side during combat.

At this time, Thena’s background story is being held confidentially by Marvel to make sure crucial information is not leaked before the premiere of the film. We can confirm is that she is living with Gilgamesh (played by Don Lee) during the present-day part of the story adaptation.

According to a round-table interview conducted by Screen Rant back in 2020 on the set of Eternals, producer Nate Moore discussed the tragic part of her story. Basically, Thena’s memory loss is so bad it can be compared to that of an elderly person who suffers from dementia.

“She has a tragic story in our film in that she comes down with something called Mahd Wy’ry. If you guys are fans of comics Mahd Wy’ry is something that can beset an Eternal. It’s a version of dementia. Because of the amount of memories they have, they become unstuck in their own mind, so she starts to forget exactly when she is, so through the course of the movie, Gilgamesh becomes her protector. And when we find them in the modern day, they’re living off the grid in a cabin in Australia because she’s too dangerous to have around humans, so it’s a fun arc for Angelina to play.”

Based on this bit of information, fans can see that the film is going to cover a very vast timeline of over 7,000 years to showcase how much the Eternals have changed over the centuries. Fans are going to have to wait until the film’s official release to see how Thena’s memory loss plays a part in the film.

We previously reported on everything viewers need to know about Marvel’s Celestials before checking out Eternals. Screen Rant also provided the following details about how even though the Eternals are superheroes, they are still humans and suffer from flaws.

“Even though the Eternals are created by the Celestials as an advanced version of humans, they are still humans in some sense. This means that there they aren’t perfect (which is how the Deviants came to be originally) and a phenomenon like Mahd Wy’ry can affect them. In the comics, the memory loss issue is also known as Eternal madness. There is a cure for Mahd Wy’ry, but it involves killing the sufferer and bringing them back to life using a backup. Although it is Thena who has Mahd Wy’ry during Eternals after living for 7,000 years, the comics also saw Sersi rapidly develop the disease after an alternate version of Black Knight forces her to go on multiple attacks across Earth.”
