Will Fantasmic! Return in 2022 For its 30th Birthday?

Due to the pandemic, we have seen a tonne of closures across Disney property. Just because something has yet to reopen does not mean it is closed forever, but many Guests missing offerings are currently unavailable.

Slowly, we have seen bits of entertainment come back to life, such as Beauty and the Beast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We have also seen Happily Ever After and EPCOT Forever return, with Disney Enchantment and Harmonious on the way. Meet and greet remain as character interactions, and fun offerings such as street performers are still dearly missed.

One nighttime spectacular that has yet to return is Fantasmic! Fantasmic! is the evening show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which has bench seating in an outdoor amphitheater where Guests can go into Mickey Mouse’s dreams and nightmares. The show is a fan favorite for many, but has yet to return. We have previously reported how the show’s lagoon has been drained for quite some time; however, the preshow music from within the theater plays.

As the 50th anniversary approaches, it will be interesting to see if Disney brings back Fantasmic! so that Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have an evening show as well. In 2022, Fantasmic will be turning 30 years old! With an anniversary that large just months away, it would be sad not to see the show celebrated. Of course, no confirmation of this has yet to be indicated. Still, with the theatre having seating and social distancing protocols no longer in place, it would not be too challenging to ensure Guest safety compared to what is being offered throughout the rest of the Park.

Disney would have to bring back a lot of Cast Members to put off the show correctly, however, and with the mass hires that have continued to go on, this could be good news not only for Fantasmic!, but there are also other closed down areas of Disney that Guests are waiting for to reopen.

At the moment, Disney has no official update or timeline as to when the show will return. One good piece of news is that they have not said that it will not be returning, so hopefully, we can say a big happy birthday to Mickey’s dreams next year!

There will be major locations such as Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort which has just been confirmed to remain closed through the rest of the year.
