Disney recently announced that the highly anticipated vacation experience, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, will open on March 1, 2022, with bookings opening on October 28, 2021. This news comes just weeks after Disney revealed the pricing structure for the 2-night immersive stay aboard the Halcyon starcruiser.
And in another exciting announcement, Disney just teased what characters Guests may interact with while enjoying their time on the Galactic Starcruiser.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the latest addition to the Star Wars footprint at the Walt Disney World Resort, located around Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Since 2017, when the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel was officially announced, fans have been awaiting news of just what type of new experience Disney would bring to its already highly-themed Parks.
Not only will Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser fully immerse Guests in an interactive storyline that they can either take part in or observe, it will also take Guests to the planet Batuu to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as well as give vacation-goers a chance to visit the newly revealed bridge — something only ever seen in concept art thus far — to “operate the ship’s navigation and defense systems under the crew’s guidance”. The Star Wars hotel is truly a feat of Walt Disney Imagineering.
With everything at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge happening amid the sequel era of Star Wars storytelling — notable from seeing Rey running around Batuu and escaping the clutches of Kylo Ren in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the Halcyon starcruiser will also immerse Guests in the latter end of the Skywalker Saga.
While we can expect to see Chewbacca, Rey, and Kylo Ren onboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Disney has recently teased who else Guests may bump into while roaming the Halcyon‘s corridors.
During an interview at the Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary press event, Disney shared with Inside The Magic some details surrounding the character element of a Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser stay.
“We’re always excited to talk about the characters we’re having, and as we mentioned you will get to see Chewie and Rey and Kylo may make an appearance if things go horribly wrong.
It is interesting that Disney alludes to these big-name characters as being part of the immersive experience when things go “horribly wrong” but what is perhaps more intriguing is who else may appear. Executive Producer and Creative Director, Ann Morrow Johnson, continued by saying:
“We also have a whole host of new characters that will be joining us that we’re really working with Lucasfilm on how we create a unique storyline that our Guests can experience for the very first time onboard the Halcyon Starcruiser.”
In what capacity these “new characters” will be included in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser remains to be seen. It could be that every Cast Member onboard will be bringing newness to the galaxy far, far away, or it could be that the new characters will be part of the ongoing storyline Disney promise as part of the 2-night vacation experience.
In addition, whether these characters will be completely new for the Star Wars galaxy, or existing characters making their Disney Parks debut is also still a question. One we are sure Disney will answer as the Starcruiser inches closer to opening. One thing is for sure, meeting Star Wars characters onboard a brand new Starcruiser created by Disney Imagineers will surely be a treat for any Guest.
