The Walt Disney World Resort has been opened for just over a year, and things are finally beginning to feel that they are somewhat close to normal — or at least, a new normal. However, there has been one big thing missing from Disney World — the sale of Annual Passes. Guests who were Annual Passholders before the shutdown were able to renew their passes if they expired over the past year, but new Annual Pass sales were paused.
Some began wondering if Disney would ever bring back Annual Passes to Walt Disney World Resort , and Disney finally granted that wish on August 30 when they announced that new Walt Disney World Annual Passes would go on sale beginning September 8. However, they were not the same passes that Guests were familiar with before the shutdown.
The new Annual Passes came with some new price tags and new names — Disney Pixie Dust Pass, Disney Pirate Pass, Disney Sorcerer Pass, and Disney Incredi-Pass.
It will be interesting to see just how many people will flock to the Disney World website when tickets go on sale. Disneyland Resort Guests waited upwards of six to eight hours to buy their new Annual Passes — now called Magic Keys — but Disneyland is largely a locals park. Disney World sees a high number of Guests visiting for an extended vacation, not just a day or two at a time.
It is important to remember that most Annual Passes are available only to Florida Residents. In fact, only one pass — the most expensive Incredi-Pass — is available to out-of-state Guests who are not Disney Vacation Club members. Monthly payments are also available for each pass for Florida residents after an initial $205 down payment.
Guests who wish to purchase a new Disney World Annual Pass can do so by visiting the Walt Disney World website starting September 8. Guests who already have a Walt Disney World Annual Pass will not be required to select a new pass from the list of options until their old Annual Pass has expired. Disney has not announced an official time for when Walt Disney World Annual Passes will go on sale tomorrow.
There will also be a PhotoPass add-on and Water Parks & Sports add-on available to Annual Passes for an additional fee.
Will you be purchasing a new Disney World Annual Pass when they go on sale on September 8? Which one will you be getting? Let us know in the comments!
