One big Disney tip Guests should know about, is that a Disney World attraction may be temporarily closed at times; however, when this happens, it is completely normal, and the ride will likely return to operations shortly!
There is nothing worse than walking all the way to Haunted Mansion from Space Mountain only to find out that the ride is temporarily closed. When a rider experiences a temporary closure, this means that the attraction needs maintenance to be done without Guests aboard the attraction.
Break-downs such as these are incredibly common and can occur due to malfunction, or, at times, the ride may not be broken at all, but due to weather, Disney will need to shut down the attraction for safety. Considering Florida is prone to storms, this can often happen and affect all of the outdoor attractions.
This week, we saw a total of 262 attractions and offerings either break down or shut down. Thanks to Wdw Stats (@WdwStats), we could track the total number of attraction closures each day from Monday, August 9 to today, Sunday, August 15. Because of the time this article is being written, we could only tally up today’s numbers until noon.
Below, you can take a look to see how many attractions closed on each day collectively at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
- August 9 – 47 closures
- August 10 – 18 closures
- August 11 – 33 closures
- August 12 – 43 closures
- August 13 – 62 closures
- August 14 – 51 closures
- August 15 – 8 closures (before noon)
From these numbers, it is easy to tell which days were storm-heavy, as lightning and thunder can close over 20 attractions at a time!
The good thing is that almost every attraction reopened that same day, sometimes, within minutes! The only time we saw a ride not reopen was Expedition Everest, which closed close to Park closing.
If you ever notice that an attraction you plan on riding is temporarily closed, be sure to keep an eye on your my Disney Experience app to be the first to know when the attraction you want to visit is up and running.
